Newbie from Missouri

Featured Replies

I have been looking for an good used WRX or STI for some time. I finally found one, but after doing some research I am very upset and not sure if a Subaru is in my future. Almost guaranteed Blown Head Gaskets, Oil Consumption issues.

I dont need a lemon. But I see a FOR SALE section that I will check out..

Anyway, I am hoping to learn even more about subbies.

I'm not sure how hard it is to find Subarus in Missouri since I got mine when I was in North Carolina, but the Head Gasket problem seems to be a bit common on older models due to the way the engine sits. As far as i know, I don't  think a head gasket problem has a deeper meaning as far as issues go, but it does take some work to replace them since the heads are on the sides.. (Don't quote me on that lol i'm still doing some research myself...)

If your concern is head gasket problems just stay away from the 2.5 liter engines.  Bug eye WRX's with the 2.0 did not have those problems, nor did any of the older 2.2 liter impreza's or legacies.  I'm not sure if you are dedicated to something newer than those but there are plenty of subarus on the road that contributed to their stellar reliability reputation.
