April 9, 200620 yr So I really need this question answered before I start putting the drivetrain into this car. If I used an EA81 solid lifter engine, and a EA81 single range 4-speed, will the stock '78 Brat driveshaft work without being modified? If noone knows, I guess it'll be time to see what I have to do:rolleyes:
April 9, 200620 yr you could measure it... measure from the motormounts to the output shaft... if they are the same for the ea71 and ea81 then i'd think you'd be good... also... you might want to PM 'subaru jim in maple ridge' he's done this conversion... and as far as i know the only part left to do on his brat is the exhaust...

April 9, 200620 yr Author yeah splines are the same but the EA81 axles are about 3/4" longer but they work in a gen 1 vehicle.
