1984 Gauge Cluster questions

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 1984 Subaru GL with the LCD Instrument Panel. Unfortunately the Instrument Panel died. Specifically the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, the charging system, and the trip computer don't work. Everything else does.

I have a analogue instrument panel from a subaru gl of the same year and am trying to splice it in. Unfortunately the connectors are rather different so I am looking for a pinout so I can splice it in without spending a day or so tracing all of the cables.

Also does anyone know why the charging system would fail when the instrument panel died, and/or a diagram of the charging system?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I looked around everywhere to get a replacement for the LCD Instrument panel but found nothing, except buying a new replacement for 3 times what the car itself is worth. I love the car, its been good to me, so i want to find some way of still using it.

It is probable that the charging system took out the digi-dash. General belief/conjecture is that a failing alternator causes a voltage regulator in the digi-dash to blow out.

I have been wanting to confirm the blown VR theory, and have several digi-dashes that have been loaned/donated to me, but no wiring diagram to use to rig a testing jig.

So, depending on whether you like the digi-dash, how much effort you want to put in to resurrect it, and how long (a day or two) that your car could be without the dash, I could try replacing the voltage regulator (a common 7805 5-volt IC) and you could see if it works.

Hi This is Jerry, i have one of those LCD dash it is cheap or trade me something. Let me know call me 1-509-952-2855 my computer is down. Thanks Jerry
