Can I just swap in a speedo and tach from a later Gen-1 Brat into my 78, solving my no lights in the dash and lack of tachometer problems at once?

Yeah I did it in my 78. Got my gague cluster from a 81. It all plugs in the same. You will just have to run a wire from the ignition coil to the back of the new instrument cluster. It will need to be plugged into the one single yellow wire to make the tach work. Wire needs to be hooked up to the negative side of the ignition coil to make the tach work too. Hope that helps.
