XT6 Trans in Loyale with legacy engine?

Featured Replies

i was thinking of putting my 5spd manual transmission in my automatic loyale.(from my Parts XT6) also wanting to put legacy engine in it. will the ej22 adaptors work with xt6 Manual transmission? till i get the adaptors will ea82 bolt up to xt6 Manual transmission?

this would fix 2 of my problems

1. more speed

2. finishes 5 lug converstion

What automatic do you have? I'm guessing its a 3AT which isn't too hard to swap. Nothing different from an XT6 tranny to any other EA82 tranny externally, just internal. So yes, bolt in tranny and yes, EJ EA adapter will work. EA82 will bolt up to the XT6 tranny because, an XT6 engine is basically an EA82 with 2 more cylinders, bellhousings are the same

ok kool. but um what about putting in the clutch pedal? just so you know i'v never changed an automatic to a standard before.

and the drive shaft will work from the auto? or would i have to use the xt6 drive shaft?. also the rear end would it work in my loyale wagon?

the parts are coming out of an 1988 Subaru XT6 5Spd Manual w/ Air suspension

P.S

sorry for asking so many questions i'm just so full of them

rear end will need to be swapped to a 3.9, driveshaft is needed from the 6 or a manual EA82 car, pedal cluster is needed from an EA82 car which takes the removal of the steering column to replace with ease. I've done two auto to manual swaps and the 3AT was the easiest one (other being a 4EAT). Just put a jumper wire in the plug where the shifter connects (the two fat wires out of 6 or so) and it'll start with no issues.

if you're going through all the trouble of swapping in a manual trans you might aswell swap in an EJ trans aswell... you'll be able to get better gear ratios and you won't need the adaptor plate...

and you'll also get way more clutch options with the ej trans...:)

2nd that! You wouldnt believe how fast your car will feel off the line with a 4.11 ratio 5MT.

would an EJ20T be interchangeable after a EJ22 mods done?

no... wiring is very different... and 4.11 ratio trans can be had from a legacy...

a 1990-1994 model ?.

ok skip the xt6 trans swap then.

yes gen1 legacys have 4.11 gears... if you want to go a little bit further, the forester (some) have 4.44 gears... there are a bevy of suby transmissions all with different quirks and giggles...

and if you want those transmissions in your xt6 then you run into the same problem trying to run a ej engine with an ea gearbox... you'll need an adaptor plate and all that jazz...

it would fit on the same transmission adaptor plate and it would fit on the same engine mounts, but wiring, exhaust and probably the radiator would need to be replaced/remade.

what mods would i have to do to make a forester transmission work with a ER27 xt6 engine?

same thing as the legacy or any other newer trans work with any ea82+ motor...

i highly recommend you use the search button instead of asking every single little question... all of this stuff has been covered before in great detail... you just gotta dig a little for it...;)
