Guest dgb03obw
Are the current MT 2003 Outbacks dual mode? I tried to find some info but it's all very top level. What exacty is it....lower ratios with lower RPMs? Many Austrailia sites mention it and one web site said that it is "easy to use". How would a different mode be chosen? Thanks in advance, Dean 03 OBW Limited 84 GL wagon 1.8t...totaled in 89 :-(
Guest ShawnW
Sounds like a dual range ft 4wd trans like our late 80's RX models had.
Guest jcdenton
dual mode is probabaly austrailian for dual range. it could be a push button or lever ingagement, it lowers the gears for more power for off-road and places that need alot of traction (snowy mountain-pass driveways and stuff like that.) Guest wrxsubaru
The dual range I am pretty sure is levar activated, and is only avalible on manual transmisions and is not avalible in the US. It gives you lower gear ratios so you have some more power, and can drive easyier at slower speeds when going off road.
Guest camosuba
Dual Range is dual range here in Australia as well, and yes they are manual gearboxes with a seperate lever to change up and down much like another gear, I'm fairly certain it is standard fitment on amnual models except for the turbo editions which are single range manual or auto only. The low range is handy for climbing hills or creeping in trafffic and for the early Liberty/Legacy models the lower gearing from the earlier L series dual range gearboxes does swap in and give much better reduction gearing as wrxsubaru says <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif" />
