I've created this thread so you can post links to all the commonly brought up topics for the new gen Subarus, while not having millions of stickies cluttering the top of the forum. For the time being I will leave the thread unlocked and allow users to post threads they feel are commonly brought up issues. When posting, please ONLY post the link to the thread, and keep discusion regarding an item in that thread. Also, please use the following format when posting Note: Replace paranthesis with brackets. Ok folks. We already have an awesome picture thread for the "Older Generation", but now it's time to pull out and share those pictures you've been stashing of *NEWER* generations. The "rules" are the same as before. If you think it's "awesome", post it up. If you have any info about the cars (who owns it, links to build threads, etc, post that too! On to the pictures! One of the reoccuring topic hijackers is the opinion the 2.2 any time someone posts question about the 2.5. For those who's advice for an issue on a 2.5, is swapping to a 2.2, that is not the advice we 2.5ers are asking for. If you cannot provide advice on the issue at hand, please do not hijack the post. Not everyone has the ability/time/money to do a swap. Just a friendly request, I return you back to your schedualed forum browsing.

New outback (to me) with non functioning power liftgate Liftgate just beeps but won't open when pressing the open button on the fob. Tried the reset trick by disconnecting the battery and shorting the battery leads together to reset the system, didn't work. Toyed with the option of converting to manual liftgate cylinders but we still need a functioning latch. The manual liftgate latch will not fit in the stock powered liftgate actuator position (non compatible mechanically). Also tried bypassing the touch sensors in the liftgate but this did not help. Disconnected the touch sensor connectors (two pin, left and right) and checked continuity across the sensors. Opening th…

Hi i have a 2000 Outback "Legacy" and the dimmer switch? Dial? Does absolutely nothing when turned and im trying to figure out if it has gone bad or maybe a wire(s) have broke somewhere or what. The blinker switch works fine both directions and the head light switch works fine to... However there is a cluster backlight bulb currently burnt out so maybe the dial stops working if theres a bulb out? 🤷🏻♂️ I was hoping someone might know how to test the dial itself or bench test it or something to tell if the dial is bad or something else.

I haven't given up on the '01 EZ30 I was talking about recently, but have been dealing with higher priority stuff - including acquiring a radiant heater for the garage so I can get the damn thing fixed in comfort. In the meantime, we have an opportunity to grab an (estate) '06 Outback with the 3.0R - low miles (~250K km and an initial ask of $2K CAD). That's newer than anything else we have (or have had), so I've never touched this motor. What do all-y'all think of it? [Edit] I see now that it (the EZ30D Mk 2) is basically the same EZ30(D Mk1) as I'm familiar with, but with the addition of VVT. So my question stands: Do you think it's a good/bad/ind…

PplMy 1999 Legacy L 30th ann. has a weird problem that when the car is off, the antenna will extend and retract at seemingly random intervals. I have installed a Mcintosh stereo receiver, amp, and rear sub from a donor Subaru, and all the connectors match perfectly from the harness to stereo, stereo to amp, and amp to speakers. There was a weird problem that the speakers would play static while the car was off, draining the battery, but installing a relay on the pin 5 wire in the DIN cable fixed that. I have replaced the entire antenna assembly and it still happens. Online, there are suggestions to add a switch to the antenna rectracto…

Hello Everyone, A while ago, I did a drain and fill on the front differential, everything went smooth. Going to do it now, the fill plug seems to be seized in place. The allen head stripped out, so I hammered in an extractor. The extractor stripped, so I drilled out a slightly larger hole and really hammered in a larger extractor. This extractor stuck, but I couldn't turn it. I put an impact on it, and it wouldn't turn. I heated the differential case and it wouldn't move. Sprayed some PB Blaster on it and let it soak, reheated, and it still won't move. I tried some of that bolt freeze stuff, and it still won't move. It's not the end of the …

I picked up an 05 Impreza, low mileage 60K. The Speedo does not work and it looks like the milage readout may have burnt out. I'm thinking a new gauge cluster. - The Timing belt has not been replaced, it's low mileage but old. I think it the idler bearings and seals should be changed. I'm also a fan if it's not broken don't fix it! Your thoughts? - Auto trans had a bit of torque bind, by feel. Not flashing trans temp light on start. The car did sit for years, so I hope the clutches were just drided out and it will free up with some mileage and a flush/TransX treatment. What do you think?

Like the title says.. the part is located next to the tail light on both sides where the liftgate comes down. They look like they are supposed to adjust or something but tried to move one the plastic just broke.

Looking at buying this '98 Legacy OB. I 'think' there was a headlight assembly / housing (not the bulbs) change in the '97-'99 years? Please look at this and tell me what you think. There is something amiss as the side-marker / turn signals don't line up. Thanks

I am looking for a standard 5 speed transmission for a 2007 Outback basic. It has a sticker that says TY757VCDBA. Mine is showing metal, noisy and is hard to shift into gear. I changed the fluid. It has new throw out bearing, master and slave. When in gear you can still move the shifter back and forth like it’s in neutral. Can I rebuild this and if so any hints on where to find the parts? Any information is appreciated thanks!

1998 Subaru Forester, 5-speed, 275K miles. ONLY does it it in 2nd Gear. Drives fine in 2nd Gear. If it's not internal tranny noise, Is there anything that the linkage could be rubbing against? The shifter linkage and related parts were replaced at about 250K. Transmission Noise Thanks for feedback.

I've tried a lot of 'em, but none don't suck. Pickle forks (whether bang-with-a-hammer or air hammer) never quite fit and always tear up the ball joint boot. I've got a hydraulic spreader, but there are rarely parallel surfaces across from each other to use it in. I'm always happy to go with brute force and ignorance (i.e. just beat on it), but that's not good either. Does someone have the right answer? Is there a screw-type puller that fits in there and just works perfectly? [edit] I'm looking at this one, but just don't know whether the arms are too thick to fit between the knuckle and the brake dust shield. https://www.princessauto.com/en/tie-ro…

im prety sure its related to the knock sensor i have questions though. as the title says it has no power until around 2500 rpm then like a light switch bam it takes off full power. if i unplug the knock sensor it has normal power at all rpm. i did some experimenting and moved the knock sensor onto the intake manifold and with the sensor mounted on the intake it does not pull power away and i can drive the car normally. i do not hear any knocking occurring with the sensor here. would it be safe to run the car with the sensor mounted to the intake? im 95% sure the sensor is reporting piston slap as the engine does do that. i do not hear any real knocking though beyond the …

Just wanted to see if there is anything specific I need to check on. I'm going to do searches for any tsb's and other stuff but wanted any input you all might have on it. 153k has some ticking from the engine. Not sure if it is lifter or piston slap. Runs good. EDIT son took it out to show his brother how to drive a standard and muffler fell off. LOL Got one ordered. Thanks Hush

My daughter reported today that her 1996 Legacy (180,000 miles) this infrequent problem. If she accidentally stalls the car by letting out the clutch too fast the car doesn't want to start for a while. She says it's happened about five times in the last year or two. Typically she comes back after 30 minutes and then it starts. It cranks just fine but doesn't start. This morning it happened again and she only had time to wait 15 minutes but no success. So she borrowed my car. About seven hours later I went out and it started fine. Any ideas what causes this?

Hey guys, I'm sure this topic has been spoken of many times in this endeavor, but I found nothing by searching. My apologies. I bought a 2002 Outback H6 VDC with a bad 4EAT, aspiring to 5-speed swap it. Today I snagged a 5mt out of a 2004 forester XT. Upon looking at obvious differences between the two trans's, the most blaring is that the FRONT axles are two different styles. My 4EAT's axles have female inboard ends and stub shafts that plug in to the diff, whereas the 5MT is simpler, with the inboard axle ends being male and just plug right into the diff. Spline count is the same between the two, but I'm unsure of the difference in length, if any, between the a…

At first the starter would engage and turn the engine over a couple times and then quit. After trying a few times it was only silent, not even a click. I replaced the starter motor but the solenoid does not appear to be receiving power from the signal wire. I looked at the owner's manual list of fuses and for the fuse and relays in the engine compartment and it says something like "except starter motor.". The passenger compartment fuse list in the owner's manual says fuse 21 is the starter relay but the fuse is still good. Somewhere I think I read that the blue boxes to the right of the small fuses are relays and one of them might be for the starter. Can someone tell…

Engine starts and idles fine, can't tell anything is wrong until you go to drive it. It's severely underpowered. Floor it and it very slowly accelerates, sometimes can get up to 40 mph on flat or downhill. It won't even make it up a steep mountain, so it's undrivable around here. New headgaskets, timing belt, and compression tested fine so I assume the timing marks are still good, but Ill check them tomorrow. Drove fine for 3-4 months after the HG then gradually got worse over a week before it became undrivable. The oil had significant coolant/water mixed in with the oil before I did the HG's - could the valve control solenoids be damaged by that? P0038 fron…
