m5zoom
Hello. I'am a first time participant to any of these types of message board communities, as well as a first time Subi owner. A little over a year ago, I purchased a 99 Legacy L Wagon / Automatic (Currently with 84,000mi), and am very happy with it. A month ago, my check engine light came on for the first time since I've had it, then the check engine light went off about 30 min later. Since then it has come on 3 times. I did observe when the light does come on, it has trouble down shifting. When going up hill, a hesitation occurs, my gas pedal is floored ( cruising at 10-15mhp) and I already am half way up a hill before it finally decides to downshift. When at a stop light or stop sign, when i accelerate, it feels as if the auto-transmission is still in 2nd or 3rd. Any ideas? Thanks m5zoom
Uni
my guess is that your stall convertor has given up the ghost. take it into a mechanic and get it checked out. Uni/.

Setright
Could be the knock sensor. When the Check Engine light is on, the ECU ignores the knock sensor and retards timing to the back-stop, to avoid pinging/detonation. This means a serious loss of throttle response.
