Msequoia Posted September 14, 2013 Share Posted September 14, 2013 are all the clutch forks the same on the ea's 1980-1991 4spd and 5spd d/r? because i'm doing the 5spd d/r swap and someone told me that i needed a fork from an ea82 so i ordered one off ebay and it just got here and looks identical to my 4spd one. the ebay seller is saying that its not compatible with my 1982 gl. are they high or am i. did they sell me the wrong one and mispost? also the throwout bearing to my new LUK xt6 clutch looks funny and off center and the fork(s) dont fit on it nice and snug like the stock one does. please hit me with the wisdom. thank you Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Gloyale Posted September 15, 2013 Share Posted September 15, 2013 Throw out bearing looks normal. The bearing "floats" a bit on the center collar. You may have gotten a 4spd fork. To my knowledge they are not the same as the 5spd. Although the colors match up. ruparts Posted September 15, 2013 Share Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) are all the clutch forks the same on the ea's 1980-1991 4spd and 5spd d/r? because i'm doing the 5spd d/r swap and someone told me that i needed a fork from an ea82 so i ordered one off ebay and it just got here and looks identical to my 4spd one. the ebay seller is saying that its not compatible with my 1982 gl. are they high or am i. did they sell me the wrong one and mispost? also the throwout bearing to my new LUK xt6 clutch looks funny and off center and the fork(s) dont fit on it nice and snug like the stock one does. please hit me with the wisdom. thank you Hi, it's been my understanding all the ea81 2-wd forks are the same , and all the ea81 4x4 forks the same , but they are not like each other.! also all the ea82 2-wd forks are the same , and all the ea82 4x4 forks are the same,, but not like each other. i am not sure if the ea-81 and the ea-82 (of either version ) are the same as each other,,, but they might be! i can say for sure the TO bearing that is mounted on that slider part in your pic ( top one in your pic) is for a 2-wd , the other TO bearing ( lower one in your pics) one is for 4x4 ,, you have to match the correct bearing to the fork,, both forks pictured are for 2wd , but not sure if they are ea81 or ea82 .. the 4x4 forks are bent slightly different and they have a different leverage ratio from the 2wd ones. i don't see that you have a 4x4 fork pictured. basically the difference is 2-wd verses 4x4 , but i am not positive if the ea81's are the same as the ea82's in either version. hope this made sense for you. ok idid some checking in the parts books, it shows the ea81 with 1800 engines all have the same fork, it shows 2 TO bearing , one for 2wd and another for 4x4. the ea81 fork is the same part # as the ea82 2wd forks ! the numbers for the TO brngs for the ea82 are different for them but that may be a superceded number thing. there is a separate number for the 4x4 ea82 fork and the bearing is like the lower one in your pic. there are different numbers for the pivot pin the fork mounts on! the ea81's and the 2wd ea82's use the same one,,, but there is another number for 4x4 ea82's that match the different fork used for 4x4 ea82. i don't know how different the 2 pivot bolts are but there are different numbers for the ea82 2wd and 4x4 ea82's. i can see the variations can be confusing but if you are using a ea82 4x4 , xt6 ,clutch i would try and find the correct pieces for that setup pivot bolt ea82 4x4 # 30537AA000 -- if your trans is ea82 4x4 it should have this part already. fork ea82 4x4 # 30531AA031 bearing ea82 4x4 # 30502AA001 looks like you this last thing is that the ea82 4x4 fork appears to have the hill holder attachment underneath the clutch cable connection, it uses a clevis pin so there is a hole through from side to side under the clutch cable connection,,, the 2wd forks have that hill holder connection on top of the clutch cable connection as seen in your pic. also there are some variations on the mount that holds the clutch cable housing at the transmission end,, and there are a few different cables too! Gloyale Posted September 15, 2013 Share Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) Yeah the 2wd EA82 stuff is the same as the late 4spd 4wd stuff. i.e. the forks, TO bearing, and the clutch discs are shared. So I think you DID get an EA82 fork, but for a 2wd 5spd.......which is basically the same as the 4wd EA81 fork......which would also account for the colour. They definately are not the ones you need. ruparts Posted September 16, 2013 Share Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) the top throw out bearing in the pic is definitely from my '82 4spd d/r 4x4 gl and so is the teal colored fork, but the fork that i got from ebay is not the right part # (thanks for that other correct part # ruparts). the TO "floats" oh.. duh, it was just brand new and stiff and i couldn't move the little center thing but i did now, my bad. so i really like my hill holder thing , am i gonna be able to hook it up to my correct fork when i get it? you guys are really awesome thanks a bunch does anyone have a fork for an ea82 5spd d/r 4x4 they would like to sell me along with the little clippy wires too? hi, the hill holder cable for the ea82 4x4 has different tip end parts on it than your original, i am thinking if you can get the correct end parts along with the pin that fits through the fork you can hook it back up , the cable end is threaded , so maybe. if there is more to than that , maybe swap out the entire HH cable for the 4x4ea82 one, i think the valve end of it is the same as yours, you might find that the anchor bracket up at the fork end is different from your original,, basically if you have all the pieces you can do it. i think you mentioned xt6 clutch,, the 4x4 ea82 flywheel (and the ea81 also) have a different "step" dimention from a xt6 flywheel , i know there are guys have used xt6 clutches in ea82's but not sure if the flywheel needed to be machined to make the step correct to match xt6 dimention. do some searching for other threads here , i know i've seen discussion on this issue. might PM caboobaroo , he has had experience with the clutch differences on all of them.
