September 18, 199926 yr Whenever I accelerate, and then take my foot off the gas, there is a slight vibration and low pitched noise that lasts until i accel again. I also noticed that the engine is pretty shaky when idleing... could it not be mounted properly? Also, when I first start up my car in the morning, it idles at around 2000 RPM's....is this normal? And if i dont let it idle for a few minutes and just throw it right into gear, the RPM's will usually start dropping, and the car will stall. What's the deal here?
September 18, 199926 yr Is it a carb model? If so the carb has a fast idle setting that is supposed to start and idle at 2000 rpms to allow for all the fluids to begin circulating and heating up better. I dont recommend throwing a car into gear... SHAWNW
September 19, 199926 yr I agree,_every_Subaru I've owned(since'78)needs to warm up even in the summer.Ain't had but 1 fuel inj.(wife's '88 wagon),and it needs a minute to warm up too or it'll bog a little. Sounds like you have an exhaust leak, they can be tiny pinholes and still make considerable noise.Especially while down shifting in a standard.Or you automatic decelerating. You could have a bad motor mount, check by having a friend put it in gear and you watch for movement.I replaced 1 by just lifting the motor a little, you don't need a hoist.Might be the motor shifting enough to make an exhaust connection come loose.Good luck.
September 19, 199926 yr I think I do have an exhaust leak, but i didn't know it was causing this... thanks. Also my catalytic converter is falling apart, so i need to replace that. Anyone got one for cheap? I'll also check the motor mount. Thanks again. -Tony
