Guest archemitis Posted July 29, 2003 Share Posted July 29, 2003 the old one would let the car overheat when going below 50 mph. very green and fuzzy. so i swapped the crappy 2row ea81 copper radiator, for an ea82 aluminum, with the ea82 fan. the fan is bigger and even though its only a single row it looks like it has as much surface area as the old one. all i had to do is drill 2 new holes in the top radiator support. pound down the studs sticking up for the ea81 radiator. ant then drill 2 new holes to stick the ea82 radiator pins and rubbers in. once you get started its easy as heck and it works alot better. uses same hoses. just have to wire the fan differently. hope this helps some of you hot heads out there. Guest LostWater Posted July 30, 2003 Share Posted July 30, 2003 My radiator on the hatch seemed to be plugged or something as the hatch overheats and coolant drips out of the bottom of both sides of the radiator. Guest LostWater Posted July 30, 2003 Share Posted July 30, 2003 The fans come on with a thermo switch that is screwed into the side of the ea-81 radiator. Does the ea-82 have the same facility? If not, how did you make the wiring so the fan would come on at the appropriate temperature? Guest LostWater Posted August 7, 2003 Share Posted August 7, 2003 The ea-82 rad is a bit longer (wider?) than the ea-81 rads. It won't fit down into the space provided. Fortunately, it is not as tall so it can fit with some modification. I cut a piece of steel, drilled two holes, mounted one end at bottom of rad, the other use a self tapping screw into a hole that I found down below. This keeps the bottom of the rad from flapping around. At the top, it was just a matter of lining up and drilling two new mounting holes. Piece of rubber on each side, and it seems to fit just fine. The ea-82 radiator is alot lighter than the ea-81 rad. The lower radiator hose is another problem. The ea-82 outlet comes out and up, whereas the ea-81 just comes straight out. A new hose is in order. I have an idea on what might work. I will go to ****vance and have them pull a ea-81 lower radiator hose out and then have them look for a hose that is the same but without the lower bend(s). It should work just fine.
