I have a '96 Brighton. I went to the junkyard and pulled the instrument cluster out of a '95 L wagon with 160k miles. I paid $40 for it.

The cluster is nice and modular. All the gauges unscrew and can be replaced one at a time. The Tachometer is connected to the cluster by three screws that line up with traces labelled +, -, and TA. I'd be willing to bet your '97 gauge pod is almost identical. I can upload a photo of the '95/'96 version if you like
