no thermostat pros and cons!

Recommended Posts

I just replaced my radiator , and let me tell you all, it is the best investment i have made since i owned the car. It seems to take forever for the gauge to get to the halfway point[it used to take about 10 minutes]. In the process , i removed the thermostat, since i live in Florida, cabin heat is not a big concern to me. So is that ok, or i am asking for trouble somewhere down the line?

This should be a bad thing. The water always circulates, and therefore never gets held in the radiator to be cooled down. A thermostat is always a good idea.

That being said, I have been running without one for 2 years now with no ill effects. The temp never goes above halfway, even on really hot, humid summer days. She also barely registers any temp at all in the winter, (never reaches "operating temp") I know this is not ideal, but I haven't had a heater core for a couple of years, so it doesent really bother me. (besides, both t-stat housing bolts broke off in the intake, and it's being held on with a hose clamp & permatex, so I won't touch it if I don't have to.)

basically "do as I say, not as I do." I'd run the T-stat.
