Guest EOppegaard
Welcome to the board, as far as the Baja, I hope someone else can help you there! From what I can tell, most people are saying things come pretty much standard on Baja's, as well as all new subaru's these days.

Guest remarcable
I read in Drive magazine there is a Baja sport that is more bare-bones and a new Baja turbo, with a turbo. Might want to wait till next model year comes out so you can snag the turbo version, if power is important to you.
Guest CROSSTBOLT
Go for the Baja! We have a 2003 and find it is a very practical vehicle and Subaru fun. Everybody we meet likes its looks. Seats are WAY better than the Forester and you can really do things with that tiny "pick-up" bed. The tonneau cover IS NOT standard! Subaru option on this costs $429.00 US dollars with two hours allowed for installation at a typical 65-75 $/hr shop rate. We took ours to the local custom upholstery shop and got a WAY COOL one for 250 bucks installed! Loooks gooood tooo! Do what remarcable says: Get the turbo. The non-turbo does well but has its anemic moments that down shifting won't always cure. Gets downright gutless above 6000 feet. We travel a lot. Get the turbo. It will be worth it whatever it costs extra. Karl
Guest lesbaru
Subarus are great for hauling kid stuff! Plenty of room for booster seats, portable cribs, diaper bags, etc etc etc. I've got friends with twins who had no problem taking the babies, the stuff, and two corgi-dogs back and forth from Michigan to the east coast. They have an Outback which is pretty much the same frame as the Baja.
Guest 2010Skier
Suggest that if this is a first baby, you consider the Outback Wagon or the Forester to make sure that your baby gear is secure. Just like an open bed on a pickup truck (wonder why everyone buys canopies or lock boxes?) the open back on the Baja has to be an invitation to thieves. Jogging strollers and the like are easy targets for thieves even if you park for a short time. This advice assumes that you live in, near or visit urban areas where thefts from vehicles are everyday events even when one leaves the vehicle briefly. Whether you go with the Baja or another Subaru, make very sure that the infant carrier/seat that you purchase really will fit properly in the rear seat of the vehicle. Not all car seats fit in Subarus and this skiing grandma had to return 2 car seats before getting one that would install properly in my Outback wagon. If it won't go in rear facing and fit properly with relative ease, it probably isn't what you are doing - it is the car seat. Good luck.
