Guest tom2turbo2
Hi there, Anyone upgraded their A/C from R-12 to R-134a on their early Legacy systems? I have a friend who wants me to help out with refilling the refidgerant now that summer is here. Also any input to other upgrades to the system to improve cooling? Thanks, Tom

Guest subieman
Yes I have changed over to 134a in my 91 Legacy. Works great! Good luck
Guest Legacy777
There's a lot of detail in my post, and should give you a pretty good step-by-step process. If you have questions, let me know. If the system is working fine, I wouldn't convert it. If it's not cooling well, or has a leak or some other problem, then it's probably worth converting it. Guest Rich
Hey all, I retro'd my 90 a month or so back. I called the local shop where my work is done and they wanted $140 for the job. I asked if they replaced the receiver/dryer and they said no, just emptied old and added new refrigerant. My Father in law has a vacum pump, so since mine was empty, we pulled a vacum for about 30 minutes, and then just added two new cans of 134A plus oil. I made sure to use ester oil so it would be more compatible with my older system in case traces of old r12 lubricant were still around. IT is pretty darn cold too. It doesn't start off as cool as 12 did, but once it gets there, it stays very cold. I will probably convery my Cherokee over when it finally dies off. Very easy job, if you have access to a vacuum pump. Rich
