Guest vanend Posted June 23, 2003 Share Posted June 23, 2003 I have a '99 forester and tonight I took off the battery cables to clean the terminals, now my lights won't stop flashing. the front and back parking lights, dash lights and license plate light keep flashing unless I disconnect the battery cable. what did I do? and how can I stop it? Guest Legacy777 Posted June 23, 2003 Share Posted June 23, 2003 You do have an alarm.....it may be a factory one, and not very noticable, but you do have one. When you disconnect power to the system it freaks out, and holding down the remote button "resets" it or does something like that. There's a lot of cars that are like that. I worked at a jeep dealership and we were constantly having flashing parking lights and such. Doesn't say much for the factory alarm because you could start the things right up. Guest Commuter Posted June 23, 2003 Share Posted June 23, 2003 The way I've heard it put, is that Subaru has used the same module for cars both with and without alarm systems since the keyless entry is also part of the module. If you don't have the alarm, then you won't have a siren (or horn hook up), etc. (Probably some other stuff I don't know about too, eg maybe motion sensor.) If you do have a factory alarm, then they add the bits and pieces to it and there you go. One wrinkle to this approach is exactly what happened to you. Loss of power for a period of time will put the module into "alarm" mode when hooking power back up. The only manifestation is the blinking lights. I've seen it come up several times on this board over the past couple of years. SmashPDX was the guy who knew all about this stuff at the time.
