  1. i'm in the same boat here. 2001 subaru outback - i'm the original owner. 105,000 miles. just had major work done by the dealer in dec 2010 - timing belt and two head gaskets replaced - $1600 repair. heard a noise in my rear passenger wheel. brought the car to my mechanic who informed me that the entire rear subframe is rusted. i called subaru customer care and was informed that the 3 yr 36k warranty is expired. nothing else he could do. sorry. i demanded a manager as i want this to be repaired by subaru free of charge. she will call me tomorrow. am i screwed? the cust service man claimed his system found that recall had been fixed but i don't recall bringing it in. either way, this is ridiculous for a 10 yr old car with 105,000 miles.
  2. i have a 2001 outback 102,000 miles. brought it in to have the timing belt replaced. was told about $500 which seemed to be the going rate. the car leaks oil. turns out i need both head gaskets replaced. he said he'd do the head gaskets and the timing belt for $1675 - maybe less but there could be engine damage already. they won't know until they get it apart. is this a fair price? also - the check engine light is on and it's been diagnosed as an Oxygen sensor AND a catalytic converter. another $1400. (i put this job off for now - only doing the gaskets and the timing belt.
  3. i have a 2001 subaru outback. i notice that after 3 or 4 days of sitting idle, the ABS light goes on for the first few miles and then turns off. anyone else experience this problem?
