I mean that that it came up to about 1/3 to 1/2 of the gauge and stayed there the whole drive.
Thanks again!

By temp gauge did not move, you don't mean that it was bottomed out do ya? (stupid, I know, just have to ask sometimes) -
Well I fixed my over heating on the highway problems!
It turned out to be a bad radiator. Thanks for the great advice!
History:
First try before asking USMB
New water pump
New thermostat
Used Radiator (i pulled it off my soob that was not over heating, but has a bad clutch)
Jumped electric fan switch
After asking on USMB:
New Radiator
New Radiator Cap
On my test run I got her up to 80 mph and turned on the AC and the temp gauge did not even move.
I am so happy I got this licked. I thought it was a blown head gasket for sure.
Thanks to all at the USMB!
Special thanks to: mikeshoup and edrach

Sorry I will try to keep it to one problem at a time.
I pushed the plastic plug in the back of the alternator and now my gauge works again.
I am going to try a price a radiator from local shops now as see if I can get one today!
Thanks again for all the help!

Well I tried to look for bubbles in my coolant this morning.
I pulled the rad cap and my fan jumping wire until the thermostat opened up.
No bubbles.
I tried to check my radiator for cold spots.
That is hard any tips on this?
Anyways I put my hand down the drivers side of the radiator and it was hot. I put my hands, as best I could, in the middle between the electric fan the the ac Fan and it was cool to the touch.
So I am guessing that means a bad radiator?
One other thing, on the volt gauge this morning it read 0. Nothing. The car ran well and I wonder if it may be a wire came lost for the gauge. Is the the plastic clip in to the back of the alternator that feeds the gauge the info?
Thanks for all the help!

I "burped" the car while filling up the radiator, and the bubbles did stop. But I will check again.
I will pick up a new radiator cap should be cheep.
The alternator output shows just above 12 on the gauge but I will test it with a multi-meters tomorrow.

I am no where near Spokane.
I searched their (Spalding Auto Wreckers) ebay store and they did not have radiators listed.
But seaching e-bay I found a seller called "allnewparts" that is selling a 84 gl radiator for $60 (including shipping), is this too good to be true?

Could be a clogged cat?
How can I tell if it is clogged?
Thanks!
-=fred=-
-
Could be a clog in the radiator, or even a clog somewhere in the block.
Hmm
I think then I will try a flush next.
Thanks!
Any good tips on this?

The power is good.
She will peel out in my drive way if I want to.
I checked the fan direction and it is sucking in.
The exhaust "looks" good, as in no dents.

Well I just did some work on my soob and now I don't know what is up.
Work done:
New water pump
New thermostat
Used Radiator (i pulled it off my soob that was not over heating, but has a bad clutch)
Jumped electric fan switch
Changed the oil.
I replace the water pump because it was leaking. That went OK but I broke a timing belt cover trying to get it off.
As long as I am driving around town the temps stay right where the should be. After a few minutes of Highway driving it starts to shoot up. I turn on the heater and slow down and the temps go back to normal.
I am thinking head gasket, but I am not sure.
Could I possible have a blocked radiator?
If the crank pulley was not on tight would it cause this? I did not have a torque wrench.
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks

Well I finally got the line replaced that went from the front base of the carb back to the heater core lines.
Wow that took me way to long.
Some tips I could give would be to get a large pair of needle nose pliers, a good friend of mine had some and that was the best tool to get the new lines on.
I am so happy to have my soob back on the road and not leaking green every where I go.

Wow that sucks.
Identity theft is a bid deal.
Do the T-Belts move at all?
-=fred=-
Things are going great now....the mechanic says he won't know anything until he takes of the cam covers, and that will only cost $300.00 . He says that they have to do this in order to find out what is wrong because they can't tell, but they think it may be a broken cam ????This is starting to get too expensive...
On top of that great news I just found out that someone opened a credit card account in my name and made an 8,500.00 balance transfer

I agree with the above post. Sound like the symptoms of a bad alternator.

Thank you!
I looked in there again and it looks like a small rubber hose from the heater core line (the larger metal one) going to the front of the carb. It looks like the rubber hose has some small leaks in it.
I will try and get it fixed and post the results.
-=fred=-
The one you're looking for is a 1/4" inside diameter rubber hose, well hidden behind/under the carb. The TBI cars have one in front as well, not sure if the carbureted model does, but I think so. My local dealer doesn't stock the molded curve hoses, they are easily replaced with fuel hose and small hose clamps from any parts house. -
Well I looked again and I saw a "large" metal line and 2 really small ones.
Do they all move antifreeze? or is it just the "large" one.
Thanks for the help!

I looked under my hood and I could not see this pipe.
Is it plastic or metal?
Dose any one know where is connects to and where is goes?
Or maybe what it is called so I can look it up?
Thanks for the help!
-=fred=-
Don`t panic, I had the same thing happen to me last year. There is a small 90 deg. hose there. Getting to it isn`t as bad as getting to the hidden one in the top front under the A/C compressor... -
Nice mod.
I will have to do this.

Very Nice.
How hard was it to put in the rear disc brakes?
-=fred=-
-
Nice.
Is it a metal line or a plastic line?
Can you remember where it went? (to and from)
Thanks for the help!!!

'87 gl wagon
I am loosing coolant, but I can't figure out where.
I can see coolant on the back side of the carb. but I can figure out where it is
coming from.
It only seem to happen after I am have driven around for a little while. After a good drive I can see coolant steaming off the car, mostly around the carb.
If any one has an idea I really want to get this fixed.

Well I paniced.
I pulled the plastic off and I could see the inner-working of the window.
The window was off the plastic holders that move it up and down.
I pulled the window out and put some epoxy glue on it and put it back in place.
I plan on letting it dry and then having a working window.
Thanks for the help!

Well I got the interior door panel off, well the one that has the cubby in it. Now I can see sheet metal covered in plastic. There are several bolts, some under the plastic some not, but I do not know what to do next.
Do I pull the plastic off and undo all the bolts?
Or do I just pull the bolts off that are not under the plastic?
Help!
Thanks,

Thanks for the info on windows. I have never worked on that before. But I did pick up a tool to take the window crank off. It was cheep and I am always looking for an excuse to get a new tool.
I will take a look.
