  1. I sold my wrx and bought a 95 4runner. I know a lot of people on here have 4runners so what are some good forums for them. I also didn't get an owners manual and have never owned a 4wd truck so i'm not exactly sure how to put it in 4wd. It has the lever inside with 2h. 4h and 4L. And the locks on the wheels but i don't know if there is a certin way to do it.Thanks for the help.

  2. yes, all the rear stuff will carry over, basically the entire rear end. the bolt holes may or may not be in place for the rear cross member and center carrier assembly of the driveshaft but they are easily drilled and tapped if necessary.

mr. radon documented converting a FWD XT6 into AWD over at xt6.net, might want to check his thread out. if you're not a member, give me a heads up and i'll make sure you join smoothly.

I'm not a member over there but I guess I should join, I am about to buy an 87' XT. Do you have a link to that write up?

  3. While you are buying your tail lights you might as well buy a GL transmission for $63.22

If this link doesn't work search subaru GL aftermarket tail lights and click on the first and third links and look at the stuff for subarus. Everything cost about the same. I'm gunna call that number tomorrow and try to talk to someone. I really doubt itis a real number, or one of thoes numbers that cost you $20 a min.

  4. i dont know about you guys, but when i clicked on either of those links, the page would come up, and then a split second later it would forward me to a new page, with no way of going back. i had to copy the link into a new window and view it that way. im not real convinced that either of those sites actually have taillights for anything.

They were working just fine when I posted the links but now they go away a second later. I don't think I would buy anything off either one of thoes sites. the second site has DL, GL, and GL-10 lights for three different prices.

  5. I got curious about this, so I went and compared the 86 FSM to the 88 FSM.

    The differences I noticed:

MAF - Old system is flapper, new is hot-wire

Distributor - Old system is hall effect w/ vac advance, new is optical, timing controlled by ECU

Knock Sensor - Old system has two wire, new has one

TPS - Old system TPS just has an Idle switch, and fully open switch. New has an extra potentiometer to determine throttle position

WGDS - Old system the wastegate is a direct hookup. New has a solenoid that slightly controls boost. I think its an altitude compensation thing.

Pressure Switch - Old system has one and uses it as a fuel cutoff. New one doesn't, and uses the MAF signal to determine fuel cutoff.

Everything else seemed to look like it worked the same. SO, theoretically one could swap those parts on to their 85-86 and the ECU, and you could gain a small amount.

Thats what I was looking at. The biggest thing would be cuting the connecters for the ECU off the newer wire harness and putting them on the older wire harness because they don't plug into the same places.

  6. But the ball joints is still larger, so no way out of using the XT6 control arm?

Its just that XT6s are so hard to find in salvage yards.

Would it be possible to use a tapered drill bit to drill EA82 control arms to accecpt larger ball joints? It would probably be hard to find a bit with the correct taper tho.

  7. EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) makes it possible for the driver to control the damping force by controlling a motor installed in the shock absorber while being seated in the driver's seat. Since the damping force can be manually controlled with ease to meet different situations, the driver can enjoy variations in the suspension setting.
