  1. Just fixed a burnt valve on a 2.5 and had a difficult time getting the engine back in the 97 OB with a manual transmission. Once I finally got in it sounded like a thrashing machine. Loud scraping noise from the throw out bearing /bellhousing. I've had this engine out several time over the last couple of years for HG and clutch replacement but I've never had this problem. Anyone had a similar problem or ideas what could be wrong? These 2.5s are definately troublesome. I've owned subarus for years but this is the worst. Seems like as soon as one problem is fixed another develops. 97 Outback 5 Speed 127K miles Thanks
  2. I have one of the trouble prone 2.5 , in a 97, 5 Speed. OB which is on it's second HG @ 150K miles. I just purchased an older, 91 legacy, with a strong 2.2 engine and a weak Auto Tranny. How difficult would it be to put the 2.2 in the 97 OB? Will the flywheel from the 2.5 fit the 2.2? Could I use the OB ECU or would I have to change the wiring and ECU from the legacy to the OB? Any assistance would be appreciated. I've owned subaru's for years, from the 1.6 to this 2.5 and this is the most troublesome engine of all. I normally average over 200k on a subaru engine with normal maintenance. Thanks Soldier Bob
