Climate Control Backlight
lazylegacy replied to a post in a topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXexcellent information in this thread for the anal unlightened. with the information here, i replaced two burned bulbs with 7219's and couldn't be happier. but, wouldn't you know it, the 1, 2 and 3 on the stereo went out the same day i fixed the climate control. please tell me another trip to radio shack is all i need. are the radio lights the same as the climate control? btw, i had no problem getting the green condoms to fit over the 7219's. -B 95 legacy staywag

bad torque converter?
lazylegacy replied to lazylegacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXaccess plug? the whine comes and goes when it is placed in/out of gear. there is a short fade going out of gear and a short crescendo going into gear. it is definitely more audible from the bottom of the housing. now, if it is the flexplate, what happens if i keep driving it? i already have at least 30k miles with the whine, and nothing has changed. do i sound like i am whinning now? -B

bad torque converter?
lazylegacy replied to lazylegacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe differential fluid has been changed a couple of times. the whine is there regardless of car movement or not. put the car in any gear, with exception of neutral or park, and let the whine begin. apply the brake so the car doesn't move and the whine will increase in pitch, just as it does when moving. i don't get it, but i do appreciate everyone's input. -B

bad torque converter?
ok, back to what i thought was a transmission whine. well, the whine seems to be coming more from the area of the torque converter. can a torque converter cause a whine whenever the vehicle is in gear? note, the car drives fine with no symptoms of a bad transmission. it's an annoying whine that increases with rpm whenever in any gear. it doesn't sound like a bearing. my best description would be it sounds like the legacy has a blower. and, i've lived with it for over 30k miles without a change in symptoms. what other symptoms might a failing torque converter make? stuck- B

transmission whine when in gear
lazylegacy replied to lazylegacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi tried the fwd fuse. no difference. it is definitely the transmission. just sitting at idle in neutral or park, no noise. throw it in any gear, and let the whine begin. the whine increases in pitch as the rpm increases, whether moving or not. it is quite annoying, especially when i obsess over it. but, for now and the past 30k miles, it has performed flawlessly. i just want the whine gone. transmission whine when in gear
my first post. just found you all! current ride is a 95 legacy with automatic that whines whenever in gear. it doesn't matter what gear or if moving. the whine increases with rpms, but throw it in neutral or park, and the whine disappears. the car shifts fine and there is no performance loss. i've lived with the noise for approximately 30k (139k total on car). funny thing is, i can't remember when it really started. any ideas?
