Introduction, 91 Legacy problem
slimmjimm replied to slimmjimm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've tested and have power at the fusebox, so this should rule out anything under the hood. i cant however get any power to the plug before the switch. From what I can tell 12+ should be the Blk/yellow correct? I'v dl'd a wiring schematic, but im afraid I'm reading it wrong, or there is no section covering this particular problem. Geez my post count is going to be a gozillion by the time im done with this.

Introduction, 91 Legacy problem
slimmjimm replied to slimmjimm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFan works with 12v. I have no fan at any speed, only fan under the hood. In some other searches, it was stated that if the resistor was discod fan should work at high speed, I do not have this result either. I'm beginning to think it may be in the wires somewhere. Any hints? I have entire dash ripped apart at this point. First inclination is the HVAC unit itself, I remember in my RX7 days there were cold solder points that used to be a problem, so I think just for the heck of it I may try checking, and resoldering. I appreciate the help and suggestions. Please keep it coming. Thanks again

Introduction, 91 Legacy problem
slimmjimm replied to slimmjimm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have another question, this resistor that you speak of and that I see pop up in searches, I'm not sure what I should be looking for, is this the creature that is dead on in this heating box? I found somthing with a plug, four wires, that is taken out by 2 screws. for lack of a better word it looks like a cage with some springs inside, this looks rather corroded. EDIT: upon more searching, I'm pretty sure I found the resistor, now my next question, after I took the blower motor out and before I hooked it up to 12v, I used a test light to the connector, nothing happened upon clicking all of the controls, speeds etc, would a blown resistor cause the current to stop flowing? Thanks a million

Introduction, 91 Legacy problem
slimmjimm replied to slimmjimm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the reply, heres an update. I checked the fuses, all seem OK. In my travels under the DS dash, I noticed a blue fuse protector, with a blown glass 15a fuse, hoping this was the problem I went off to autozone to fetch a fuse (who has glass fuses haging around nowadays anyway?) plugged it and, and presto, nothing. I went under the pass saide dash, and took out the fan, hooked it up and fan does seem to work. Now the dilema, I noticed that the fan has the same color and guage of the fused wire mentioned above. Is the blk/rd (it looked like it was 12 guage, just a guess) common throughout the vehicle? Also what will i be checking for resistor wise? Any way to rig the fan otherwise? or point me to a thread with the same problem resolved? Boy and I thought VW's were a pain. Thanks again:)

Introduction, 91 Legacy problem
Hello all, I just picked up a 91 Legacy L wagon for a winter warrior/work car to save the milage on my GTi which does nothing in the winter. I've always admired the Legacy, and even with 235,xxx I didn't hesitate to buy with the knowledge that subies last for quite a bit of time. The only problem I can see so far (I just got it about 2 hours ago) is the blower motor does not operate. I did a very quick search and see this topic comes up, but please dont blast me for being a newb. Is this motor fairly cheap, and what type of installation problems would I run into? I'm pretty much a DIY kind of person, so I have no problems doig this myself. Also if you guys have any links to good online parts suppliers that would help also. TIA
