Grinding 1st and Rev. '98 Outback
Luki replied to Luki's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the info. After doing some some research, I stand corrected on my snake oil analogy. It seems that this might be worth a try.

Grinding 1st and Rev. '98 Outback
Luki replied to Luki's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, that's how I usually solve the reverse problem. I did some more research on the 1st gear problem. Sounds like you have to wait a moment after depressing the clutch for the tranny gears to "spin down": http://www.drivewerks.com/Newsletter/vol-5.htm Are there any clutch adjustments that I can do to minimize the problem? Also, does Redline 75W90NS, http://shop.store.yahoo.com/subarustore/red75gearoil.html, really help speed the synchro process? Sounds like snake oil to me.

Grinding 1st and Rev. '98 Outback
I bought my 98’ Outback with 47K. Shortly thereafter, shifting into reverse would either grind the gear or it would not go into gear at all. This happens randomly, including the case where reverse was the first gear of the day (backing out of the garage). Now at 90K, the problem has migrated to first gear. When I have the clutch fully depressed, grinding occurs when shifting into first. This happens when I am at a dead stop. I saw posts with similar problems and some suggested a clutch adjustment. What does this involve? Any other suggestions?

Anyone ever used these headlghts...
Luki replied to Luki's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGood point. I did keep the one working headlight and stored it in one of the compartments in the back. Next up is to figure out how to replace the front signals. But that is another post... Till then.

Luki replied to Luki's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah, I was super paranoid when I installed them. The bulbs did not touch anything organic or otherwise. That is the only that I saw that was bad about my outback. I put one light in and turned them on so I could compare. The new bulb was at least twice as bright and much whiter. The "uber" outback is ready to roll!

Luki replied to Luki's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, I bit the bullet and installed them. I was very careful not to let the bulb touch anything. We will see how long they last. They are much brighter and whiter. Those OEM lights sucked.

One of my head lights finally went out on my 98 Outback. I intend to replce them with the Sylvania Silver Star lights. These are supposed to be very good. Any comments. Website
