  1. I'm a loyal Subaru guy but have you driven a new Civic Si? They are roughly the same price as a 2.5i impreza and waaay quicker. Unless you really want the AWD then I'd seriously consider the Si. Used WRX's are easily/cheaply had as well.:brow: This is going a little wayward but 1 or 2 year old lexus' IS300's have gotten really inexpensive and they are one of the nicest cars I have ever driven. Just a thought. Good luck!

The Si is a very fun car... :D I got the privilage of driving the new Si about 3 months ago in Pamona, CA at the 2006 Honda Civic Ride and Drive--was a great time. They come out, in production, halfway through next month. Was thinking about getting the new Si, or an '06 Acura TSX. But, I am looking into getting a used Subie to take offraod... :)

  2. Welcome to the board, if there's on thing you can take away from here it this:

Convince SOA to reintroduce a modern version of the Brat, you can then retire rich.

Seriously, make the service department honest, you've all mostly got a very bad rep in this board.

I also speak from personal experience, until my local dealership figured out that I knew what I was talking about (and hearing) they tried the most amazing hoodwinks on me.

Well, from my experience already, I know for a fact, that Subaru's customers aren't dumb, whatsoever. Subaru customers know more about their product than any other customers from different brands of vehicle. I haven't seen any other company where a customer walks in knowing more about the vehicle than even you do. :D

  3. having seen some of this guys other threads...

i still welcome him but question his motives

but then again i am naturally paranoid

LoL. Meh motives are nothing more than what I have mentioned in meh threads. Only here to learn more about the product, and more about the Subaru customers. :D And I am definitely doing so. :)

  4.

Also, the shifter SUCKED... notchy and I kept missing the 2-3 shift.

LoL... You have no idea how many people I had tell me that. I used to just tell them to hook their pinky around the little ledge on the shifter, and it always resolved the problem... So, if any of you decide to test drive a '06 Civic with MT, hook your pinky finger around the ledge of the shifter(you'll see what I mean), and you'll have no problem...

  5. I've never driven Impreza's or Civic's newer than '97, and my car is a '89 GL wagon. But here was my impression of both.

The Civic is pretty gutless unless you get the Vtec? engine. I drove a '97 (I think) civic with that engine and was quite pleaseantly suprised that it could go up hills at highway speed, which most civic's can't (but hey, neither can my '89 suby). It was also the hatchback instead of the sedan that I had previously driven. I was also driving it around in snowy mountain roads, and was suprised at how well it felt glued to the road. Better than my old subaru even (It had slightly better snow tires). A civic with really good snow tires is better than any SUV or 4wd pickup I have driven on snowy highways. Of course in deep snow, it won't do you any good. The AWD subaru will be better -- carlike handling, but with AWD. But you may not really need it.

The Impreza definitely has more power than the civic -- largely because it actually has low end torque instead of a rubber band engine. No trouble going up hills at speed limit or higher. Fun to drive. I think 30mpg is more typical of mileage from what I've heard. I've never driven one in the snow, but unless they made it much worse than my old suby, it'll be great in snow untill it gets deep enough to high center (I suspect if anything, the new AWD is better than mine, except for getting rid of the low range 4wd, which is why I won't get a new one). I have a 4wd pickup too, and the subaru is much better in the snow.

The civic has a transverse engine, which is a PITA to work on. My VW rabbit is 3 times harder to do anything on than my subaru because of this. If you aren't doing your own work, not an issue.

And I have heard rumors that the diesel civic will be coming to the US in '06. In my book this would put it way over the impreza. I love the new diesel VW's (as much power as the Impreza, but better gas mileage than the civic), but their quality leaves something to be desired, and they don't like dirt roads much... I don't know how much the price premium might be for the diesel civic.

    Zeke

All model Civics come with i-VTEC engines now, even the DX. But, yes, the Imprezas have 33 more HP than the '06 Civic.

  6. i wasnt really going to get into power mods but dam this thing is slow lol (any tips to make the auto a bot more responsive )

ive fabbed up all my own mods for my honda (including custom made individual throttle boddies) but is there much sence in doing some exaust and intake work . how do these cars react to these mods , and is it worth my time .

ill probly pass on the exaust since its auto and i dont like the sound and auto makes with a fart can on it .

i guess my biggest problem is im used to my summer car and the throttle responce it has . the legacy feels kinda weak and mabye this is due to the tranny , i dont really now . but over all speed is not what im after , but reasponce wouldbe great .

Try an upgraded air filter and have someone custom make, or make one yourself, a intake for your car. I know a few people who did that with their automatics, and it definitely helped the response.

  7. Exclusive spec. B Interior

Striking Brick Red leather trimmed upholstery highlights the unique interior styling of the Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B. The

distinctive interior is further differentiated from the 2.5 GT Limited model by aluminum-alloy pedal covers, a 3-spoke

MOMO® leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls, “spec.B” floor mats and an individually

    numbered limited-edition plaque.

The Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B further builds on the generous standard equipment of the 2.5 GT Limited Sedan, adding the

new Subaru Navigation System and an upgraded audio system with MP3 capability. Standard features shared with the 2.5

GT Limited include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, performance-design front seats, a power moonroof, an

8-way power driver’s seat and a 4-way power passenger seat (both with 4-stage heating) and heated exterior mirrors. All

Legacy models for 2006 feature the Subaru Advanced Frontal Air Bag System, front seat side impact air bags, active front

seat head restraints and side curtain air bags.

  8. Exactly... You don't want to buy something you're just gonna trade in a couple years from now, and be $5000 barried. :-p So, it would behoove you to make the right decision. You really SHOULD go test drive both vehicles; I'm sure you'll find some "pros" and "cons" in both.

By the way, the '06 Civic has a 5-Speed automatic, instead of a 4-Speed like last year, so, it gets better gas mileage than the manual. :o

  9. ACTUALLY, it's a smaller world than you think... I'm coming up to State College today to visit my bro at PSU. (I graduated this past May  )

Also, what's this Cosco program that you're talking about. I've heard about it before, but no clue how it works. I have a membership to Sam's Club, but I guess they don't have an equivalent program.

You're right, the programs are equivalent at all. You're going to see that with the '06 Civic, the Sam's program isn't going to be the savings you're looking for. The '06 Civics, because of the drastic changes, have been holding back they're "mass release." Usually around this time of year, you'll see Honda dealerships who have 30-40 Civics on their lot, but, because of no "mass release," Honda dealerships have had a shortage of Civics, usually about 1-5, and aren't dealing as much on them. I believe the Sam's program for the '06 Civic is $200 below MSRP, not invoice. When, on the otherhand, an Impreza, I believe, is $100 below Invoice. And you mentioned on your first post that you like the fact that Civics are available with Navi, so, I take it you'd be purchasing an EX Coupe or Sedan with Navi? So, in reality, you'd be paying, probably, about $3000-$4000 more for the Civic than the Impreza. But, if you do go with the Civic EX, get the coupe. The Coupe has a 350 Watt Premium Sound System with 7 Speakers and a Subwoofer. :o But, either way you go you'll be getting a great car. But, what is it you want most? Power and AWD, or the better gas mileage?

  10. Honda Parts ARE pretty expensive... Unless you work there, then you get a discount... :-p I actually own a Honda at the moment, a '94 Civic DX Hatchback. And yes, Subaru's DO kick rump roast. I have had the chance to test drive all the vehicles--very fun vehicles. Especially hitting our round off-ramps at 70 MPH in an STI. :) And I will definitely do my best here at Subaru--just slow at moment--store is just getting on it's feet.

  11. What's up everyone? I am new to this message board, also new to the Subaru family. I have never owned a Subaru, I just work for a dealership in California. I was transferred from a Honda dealership, next door, and sent to Subaru to try to get the store on it's feet. Our Mazda store and Suzuki store branched away from our Subaru store, in attempt to not only increase our sales, but to become a much bigger, more known, Subaru dealership. I don't know too much about the Subaru product at the moment, but, with the materials I have already, and joining this board, I hope to become very familiar with this product-line. Anyways, I have pretty much introduced myself; so, I'm gonna stop typing and stop wasting board space. :P Haha. Everyone, take care. Late.
