  1. I posted on here a few weeks ago about changing a speed sensor. I ordered the sensor and pciked it up tonight. Just to make sure I had the guy read my CEL code again, this time I wrote down the number and description. From searching this site I am finding that P1507 means "Idle Control System Malfunction" however, mine read "Manufacture Control Speed Sensor" which is why I purchased the speed sensor. Before going through the work/money of replacing the speed sensor, I would like to make sure this is the problem. Why would my car not read the Idle control system thing, and if that is the problem, how do I go about fixing it? I drive a 2001 Manual Transmission Outback. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! -Laura
  2. Ok, so thanks to the help of people on here, I know I need to fix the speed sensor on my transmission on my manual transmission 2001 outback. My question is, is that something I can do myself (assuming I have the help of some car-knowledgable people)? And if so, how do you do it? I have heard from some people that it is as simple as just unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one from the outside of the transmission. Others have said that it might require taking apart and getting inside the transmission. I do not mind taking it to the dealerhsip to egt fixed, but if its reasonably simple I would rather save the money and do it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Also, If I take it to get fixed, I may not be able to do so for a couple weeks. Is this something that is doing harm to my car by not fixing it? And will my car eventually break down if it is not fixed soon enough? Thanks!!!!!! Laura
  3. My check engine light has been flashing on and off the past two weeks. I was finally able to go get it read today and the guy told me it was my speed sensor. He mentioned that it was on the transmission (manual) and that it would be really easy to install. He said it would simply involve jacking up the car, unscrewing the old one from the outside of the transmission and screw on the new one. They didnt have the part so I went by the Subaru dealership and the guy told me that theres a speed sensor on the transmission, as well as ones of the wheels for the ABS system. How do I know which "speed sensor" was broken? and assuming its the transmission one, is it really that easy to install, or is there more work involved? I am not so good with cars, but I have some friends that are, however if its complicated I'd rather pay someone to do it right rather than have my friends mess up my car. Help please!!! Thanks, Laura
