  1. Behind the passenger side tire (front) there is a plastic cover (that extends

all the way around the wheel well). Take the wheel off, unbolt that cover

and see if the drain (pull black drain cover off) is plugged up with sand, dirt

and whatever else. Rainwater runs off your windshield down the drain system on the passenger side and if that exit is plugged the water runs back into the car above the passenger floor. It has happened to me twice.... first we thought the windshield was leaking and then the cowling

below the windshield, etc. Try it and see if that helps.

    Hi All,

Living in the Phoenix area it doesn't rain often, but last Saturday it rained all day which is newsworthy (first time in 120 days). When I got in my 98 legacy outback the passenger side floor and mat was soaked. I could not find any obvious entry points. The windows were all closed and no water on the dash etc. Any ideas where I can start to look?

  2. Thanks everyone, but.........we've cleaned the injectors, fuel filter, air filter,

new plugs and wires, just replaced the starter, neutral safety switch and coolant temp sensor. The dealership replaced the air control valve and ignition coil pack........all that in four months and the car still does the same thing. The throttle body has also been cleaned. The symtoms started right

before we replaced the second stage catalytic convertor. You warm the

car up, drive for awhile, come to a stop, the tach drops below 0 and the car

dies. Turn the key and it fires right up. Won't do it again until after a long

high speed run. Any ideas would be appreciated. By the way, the code reads

    P1507............

  3. Nothing wrong with the BFG's, but nothing great. The TT's seem to

handle better on dry and especially wet pavement (but they're still new,

so I can't give you a 'wear' opinion). The Scorpions did not like grooved

concrete pavement and the Mich. were just average in every category.

The only Bridgestones that will fit my stock wheel (that I considered) were

Turanzas, but I didn't try them.

Tire Rack is really a good place for any tire info........

I'm currently considering BFG traction T/A. What was wrong with them in your opinion? Also, what is so great about Triple Treads?

For the record, I currently have potenza RE 950. Nice and queit tires in dry and wet but extremally slipery in ice.

  4. Unfortunately my local dealership has seriously hosed me in the last year......

billing me for parts that I didn't need, overcharging me for parts and basically

screwing up my car so badly it's taken a month for my independent mechanic

to get straightened out. They have even denied there were recalls for my

car that were listed on the internet. And even worse, they own the

other major dealer in my area. So, I'm looking for someone that is

honest and has the parts available.

It will be pretty much impossible for you to get parts DIRECTLY from SOA. You have to buy them from a dealer.

Honestly, you'd be surprised how much money you can save and how well you'll get treated by making friends at your local dealership.

Talk about having the hookup, one of my former coworkers and good friends now works at a Subaru dealership, so he gets me sweet deals and fast delivery on parts, and if I ever needed anything else, I personally know one of the service writers and the sales guys at the same dealership :)

  5. I've got a '99 Outback and have run original Michelin XW4, two sets of

Pirelli Scorpions, BFG Traction T/A and currently have a new set of

Goodyear Triple Treads. So far, the Goodyear Triple Treads (never

thought I would say this about a Goodyear tire) are the best tires I've

ever run on this car (I drive about 25000/year).

I'm looking at replacing the infamous OEM "crapenzas" with a set from one of the options below and would like some input on whether or not anybody has experienced a reduction in their mpg using them.

Obviously I'm not making a decision solely on that factor, but I'm curious in case it comes to a tie in the end.

Here are the ones I'm considering for all-season on my 2002 OBW (225-60-16)

    Yokohama AVID TRZ

    BFGoodrich Traction T/A H

    Kumho Touring A/S 795

    Goodyear Assurance TripleTred

    Falken Ziex ZE512

    Thanks.

  6. Where did you hear about a recall for the MAF? I can't find any record of it?

I just found out that there is a recal for the 99 legacy wagon for the MAF Sensor. If you call a dealer in your area and give them your VIN number they will tell you if there are any open recalls. There have only been 3 other recalls, and they didn't effect my legacy wagon. I am the first owner of my car, and I didn't get a recall notice for the MAF Sensor. Someone on this site alerted me to the problem when we were having a hard time diagnosing the problem.

If you type in Subaru recall on google, often times you can find info about any possible recalls. But the best bet is to call your dealer, because some recalls may not be posted yet.

  7. I'm looking for good Subaru guidance in the Cincinnati, OH area. Had my

Outback since it was new in '99. Rebuilt the engine last winter (at a dealer,

not a good idea) and now am having stalling and acceleration problems.

Dealer recently had my car for a month replacing idle air control valve and

ignition coil pack (also cleaning throttle body, checked O2 sensors). Car still stalls after initial warmup (after cold start). They also messed with 'idle' adjustments and now the car feels as if someone were jerking it backwards when you back off the accelerator (especially at speed). So, the dealer replaced the computer with a used unit and problem is still not fixed. Now it shows check engine light, with code P1507 (I think idle air control, again). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any good Subaru mechanics

in the Cinti area would also be welcome.
