  1. I made a mistake! It's a 86 not an 87. I got the speedO out, but broke the circuit board on the bottom right below the heat control, bummer. I tested the speedO using an old VW cable and it works fine, so I pulled the cable and it isn't broke, but I did find a very small washer on the cable and it maybe got stuck in the housing? I greased the cable and housing, left the washer off and will put it back in after I find one of those circuit boards. Antone know what that washer is for?
  2. I was on a trip this last weekend and my speedO went flaky. It was normal and then I noticed that when I let up on the gas the needle would stay at the speed I was going and work it's way down slowly, when I give it more gas, again it would work it's way up. Would it be the cable or the speedO itself? How hard to replace? Thanks!
  3. Fisrt name is Rich, I call him wongleflute! Seems to make him smile a little more.
  4. I found the engine size, ea82 on the front by the dip stick. Damn book pointed it out by the dizzy. I called a friend that has a few brats and a GL wagon and was telling him what the manual said to do to change out the axel and he got pissed. Said he could get it out in 20 min. without pulling off the caliper, backing plate and I didn't need to take it down and get preesed out and the new back in! He was here within an hour and damn, had it out in under 20 min., what a guy! It was 23 spline, and after we got it, the car was back on the ground in 30 min.!
  5. I looked in the manual for where to find the engine size on this 86 GL SW I picked up, but either my eyes are getting real bad or the book is pointing me in the wrong direction, any one know? I need to replace the left front axle and want to make sure I'm buying the right one for it. Also any tricks to doing this?
  6. Hi All! I picked up my 1st Subaru a couple of days ago, 1986 GL Wagon, and know I'll be picking through the post and asking questions to keep this on the road,(and off). I've used forums before for my 1968 Karmann Ghia, 1984 BMW 318i, and 1984 Yamaha XV1000. I'm located up in the Seattle,WA area and have a few friends that have brats and wagons like mine, but they can't always help when needed, and I find that sometimes with, too many people and too many beers, the job takes longer than it should. So really looking forward to this site!
