Our 2003 Legacy with 25000 miles has a very disturbing intermitient start up problem. Every few months or so when starting (hot or cold) the car runs very badly and dark smoke pours out the tail pipe. Seems to be running extremely rich. The car will not run properly until it is shut off and re-started, and then the problem is completely gone like nothing ever happened. Has anyone had a similar problem? Have we found a solution. My wife managed to smash into a low roofed garage with our Thule ski box on the car. The box and the rails, and the mounting brackets were all nicely destroyed. In addition, the middle mounting bracket that holds the side rails to the roof of our 02 Legacy wagon was smashed and disconnected from the rail itself. The rail is still straight and intact. Does anyone know how I could replace the middle support bracket? Do I have to remove the entire rail? Would the headliner have to come out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks J.
