What is it then? Hey...maybe now I can convince my wife it's not a "wagon". Since I started looking for a Forester, she kept on saying "But I don't want to drive a station wagon".

Exactly! Check the manul, there's a full description of how to replace the filter element (and how often to do it) - it involves removing the glove box.

Our "driveway" is a 1.5 mile dirt and rock road...supposed to rain/snow tomorrow though - might be in luck with some good looking mud splooshing.

I had the exact same one once (04 XS 5 speed and blue too) I'll spare you the rest of the details but they aren't pretty and I don't have it anymore....
It was a nice car though. Consider getting tint for the windows...I bet it would really look cool like that.
Getting her tinted out on Thursday...I'll post pics next time she's clean.

This is crazy...only had her for 2 days and she's already nicknamed herself "BLUBARU". Got home today and she ran right out with the camera and started taking pictures of herself (smart girl even figured out the self timer). I expect she'll register here and start complaining about me before too long:
She's most definitely an XS...regardless of what her rear "X" end says.

Saturday the 4th of March 2006...we bought a used 2003 Subaru Forester XS (Blue/Titanium).
I think it adopted us more than we bought it.
Love it...just got the pre-purchase inspection results, clean as a whistle (well almost).
Interestingly...the seller thought he was selling an "X" model, he bought it new from the dealer in '03 as an "X" model "with several upgrades", and it's badged an "X".
After having done three months research for this purchase, I know what an XS package includes. I checked out the car on Friday afternoon, took the VIN and ran a CarFax on it. Dang...it IS indeed an XS!!!
56,000 highway commuter miles. Typical scratches and dings here and there (few). Needs new plugs and a battery soon (according to the pre-purchase inspection).
I'm a happy camper...I now belong to a Forester!

I'm shopping for a late model Forester...does that count?
Looking for a daily commuter to throw down about 80 miles a day - also checking around for very mild lift kits, just for a little extra ground clearance.

So here's the deal...a guy I work with has a Forester (2004 5spd X). He wanted to spread out the cost of tire replacement so he went to the tire dealership and wanted to replace only the front tires because in his rotation, the fronts had the least amount of tread.
His plan was to work into a routine where he was only replacing two tires at a time instead of a full set of four (same brand and model of tire).
The tire store tech gave him some **** and bull story (I think it's bull) about how it's an all wheel drive car - you HAVE to replace all four tires at the same time because if you unbalance the system with difference in tread depth and traction you can destroy your AWD drivetrain!?
Make sense or is this worthy of a BS flag?
