  1. Ok...this i don't get...i got all of my car audio equipment together and tryed to hook it up in my 88gl wagon the new radio works but thats not the problem...the problem is i hooked up my amp to a bandpass box and the amp keeps on coming on and back off..now here's the funny part....i changed where i was grounding it from whitch was the driver side metal piece directy to the battery and got it working for a few minutes then it was turning of and coming back off again......any ideas?

  2. I have a '87 dl 4wd and also have had similar problems. If things are working right, you would depress the gas pedal once to set the choke and then after about 2 minutes tap it again to kick down the idle.

The problems that mine had were vacuum leaks - I have replaced all of the vacuum lines that had hardened ends. Misrouted/disconnected vacuum lines - having another car to help route correctly. That carb is a mess of hoses.

Poorly adjusted air/fuel mixture screw - I had a local subaru shop adjust mine.

Another possibility is the O2 sensor needing replacement.

I assume you have good ngk spark plugs installed and that it is properly timed.

I have found the Haynes manual helpful

Do You have a diagram Of this and if you do can you copy it for me?That would be awesome
  3. I got an 87 gl wagon 4wd ea82 And this is geting insane.First to start,i replace the carb b/c it needed it b/c the choke locked up and i wasn't messing with that.I replaced the fuel filter,i replaced vacuum line but not alot,I replaced the Egr Valve gasket b/c the Egr Light was on which i found out how to turn it off.I replaced two Parts of the exaust,The front part of it and i replaced the muffler b/c the top of it was split in two places. So anyway back to the problem,I pump the gas 5 times and start the car,it starts but i have to give it some gas to get it to stay above 2000 rpms then some time i can get the car to saty in idle but then if i try to put it in reverse or drive it will stall or idle rough....can someone help me with this b/c my patience is wearing thin and i need a car period...If i cant get this running then it's getting sold but i really don't want to get rid of it.Any help would be great. Thanks:headbang:Oh and if the problem doesn't get fixed then if any one wants to buy it i got pics of it.

  4. alright heres the deal... someone told me, a prof. mechanic, that i need a new "donut gasket" the thing that connects the the exhaust from the engine to the muffler right under the drivers seat. i have no clue how to do this and im not letting anyone else do it so.... anyone done this before?

Yeah..i just done it recently and it's easy...just make sure thats theres not alot of rust and remove the bolts that connect to the converter...you will need two tools,1 A rachet with a socket and a wrench and after you do that clean the area with a wire brush and if need use a razor blade to get the rest and insert donut gasket put bolts back on and you set.:headbang:
