  1. First of all, I would like to apologize if my post is in the wrong place.

I am in need of good advices from you fine gentlemen! I need to change both my headlights and I hate to pay 50$ for a 5$ part. I would like to let you know that I know NOTHING in mechanics! I don't ever do my oil change myself. I know that in order to change headlight on 2005 2.5RS Impreza you have to take out the front pumper first...

If someone would be kind enough to make a quick guide for me, or redirect me to one, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Keep in mind my knowledge in mechanic. So it have to be easy to understand. It can be in french to.

    Thanks a million times!

  2. Errands as in running some errands. "2 a : a short trip taken to attend to some business often for another <was on an errand for his mother> b : the object or purpose of such a trip "

What would you guys do without us Canadians?

    The answer is 2b. :)

I was getting some stuff for my girlfriend. But it did it again this morning! The radio was playing and then... Nothing! But when I closed the door it start playing again. Must be a loose connection somewhere...

  3. Hi!

I'm on a oil consumption test at my dealer cause I'm using at least 2 litre per 6000 km. Witch I think is to much! But on the test so far, I burn 400 ml in 1000 km. But now he is telling me that's normal. The car is a 2005 with 20 000 km. But they change the shortblock (?? I think it's the upper part of the motor ??) maybe 6 months ago due to a strange noise (something with pistons). So here my question! How much oil burning is consider ok? I know that a little is ok, but man, 2 full bottles per oil change seems a bit to much! Thanks!

But the car run great as always!

  4. Thanks a lot! I'm not a idiot and I don't want to screw up my car. That I love by the way. But like he said, it's not a bad thing to know. And I'm good with the clutch. I would love to make a couple of laps on a race track, just to see how is my driving skills! But back to the topic, I will try. But I will go easy! Thanks again!

    powershift BAD!

that said its not a bad thing to know how to do. This goes along with double clutching. Power shifting has gotten me home on a broken clutch cable. Dad was a professional driver and taught me how.

Now i am not responsible for you screwing up your transmission.

when you shift normally, watch your tach. you want to keep your road speed steady and see how far the rpms drop. To powershift you must be able to do the same thing. If the rpms drop by 500, then you have to drop them by 500 using your right foot, and not let the road speed drop too much. Sometimes its easier to do it on a down shift then an upshift (only this time your raising engine rpm) . There is a sweet spot where you can put the car in gear. Do not force it, but you have guide it in. Grinding is bad.

After a few attempts at this, if you cant do it, give up. Its not worth screwing up your gears.

  5. I drove my sub quite easy for the first 15000km believe me that engine was thight. even your gas mileage changes afterwords. It's not easy to follow this but the results afterwords are; A very quiet engine, and no oil consumption and then you can enjoy trashing gears at red line! forget the last line.

    good luck!

We all learn from our mistakes I guess! It's not so bad thought! It could have been worst. I can live with those things for now! In a couple of years the gas price would probably make me sell this car anyway, not because the engine is damaged a little! But it's a great car! I got to admit that I bought this car for having fun with a decent car while gas was affordable for everyone! In the future good/fun car to drive will be there, but not as we know it today! So, why not a Impreza! And I'm really happy with my choice! (Don't like the front look of the '07 thought)

  6. DONT DO THAT. Read the owners manual and follow break in procedure. What he said ab.out 4000 rpm. You may have caused a problem that you have to live with now.

When I went the first time with the noise, they haven't told me what was the problem! They said:"The motor is broke! We will change it!" When I went to get it back I ask again what was wrong and they said, again, the motor! I aks them if there was a break in procedure since it's a new engine and they was telling me no! Wow, they know there stuff! Anyway, I had wait at least 1000 km before stepping on the gas. I had put maybe 2000 km since they change my engine! I will try to go easy for a while! Hope no serious harm was made.

But now I have another problem. I don't know if I should tell you guys, you'll laught at me. I HAVE PUT TO MUCH OIL!!! At least I know how to fix this!

  7. For the oil problem, I do push it a little! I don't get very high speed, but as acceleration goes, almost in the red for each gear. Not ALL the time off course, but every time I got the chance! So it might explain the oil burning that fast!

Well, I got to say thank you all for your help, it did help! :burnout:

It's a new engine! Don't go over 4000rpm at least until you reach 10 to 15,000km.

    enjoy your sub

Well! My car won't like my then! I'm at 12 000 Km (+/- 7.5 miles) and it's been a while that I don't go easy on her! I was thinking more in the range of 500 km before really step on it! So I'm screwed? My motor is in bad  shape? Or I'm lucky it's a Subaru? :headbang:

  8. WIth a brand new motor, you have to get 9-10K miles on it before the rings seat, and subarus seem to be on the high end of this.

Three words, document, document, document. Keep a diary of who you spoke to when and about what.

What was the reason for the first engine to go south.

I did go smooth for the first month or so, even if the dealer was teliing me that's not necessary anymore, but my last car was a honda civic. And the rpm can go higher on a civic. I don't look at the rpm meter, I listen to the sound of the motor! So I may have made the rpm go to the max two or tree times! :-\

The first time I take it to the dealer was because the motor was making some noise (klac!) at high rpm!

    I use natural oil.

  9. Gee Noah, mine must be the exception, I don't exactly baby my car, heck just last night I accelerated from a light so fast that the 'G' forces made my wife's back hurt (she had back surgery 5 months ago). I check the oil level everytime before and after an oil change, and it is in the same spot everytime, the engine has over 110,000 miles on it.

But back to the problem, have you taken it back to the dealer yet? If not, why not?

2 weeks ago I went to the dealer and explain all of this and for the engine they aks me things like: "what did you do just before it happen?" There was really nothing special to tell! The mecano test drive it with me and of course it didn't happen! So they tell me that they have to experience the problem cause Subaru won't pay several hours just to "find" what's wrong!

Should I put my "non-happy customer face" and demand (not ask) to have it look at anyway?

For the oil problem, I do push it a little! I don't get very high speed, but as acceleration goes, almost in the red for each gear. Not ALL the time off course, but every time I got the chance! So it might explain the oil burning that fast!

Well, I got to say thank you all for your help, it did help! :burnout:

  10. Hi guys! I got a '05 Impreza 2.5 RS (Sport Pkg) and two months ago my motor was making some noise at high rpm. So I take it to the garage and the guy told me that he had to change the motor! It's brand new!!! Anyway the warranty would cover it all, so let's change all that! They told me they change the short block and some minor things! (to me it sound like:"jgiorefjeklrfjqvèefjghiw;" After that, all was good. But it's been about 2 months now and for no reason my motor as shut off on it's own 3 times now, while driving! And I'm burning at least a pint of oil between oil changes!

    What do you think?

  11. The only real big issues that arn't immediately thought about are

    1. Never tow with only 2 wheels spinning, or kiss your tranny goodbye.

    2. always replace the tires in sets of 4's or kiss your tranny goodbye.

other than that, have fun, and rage it.

If you wanna go faster, get the handling up to par, get better sway bars and end links and go from there, the speed of these is made up in the turns and not the straight line.

    Welcome to the board.

"Get the handling up to par" ???? I speak french so I missed that one! What 's this mean?
