  1. Heh... before I stumbled across my '84 GL hatch I was thinking of doing that to my fickle RX-7. Teach some trophy wife a lesson about following distances and simultaneously convert car to cash. Now I'm about to have my sexy rotary beast up and running again -- but I think I'm holding onto this Subaru! Except for the apparent absence of 3rd and 4th gear synchros (is this a common problem for EA81s?) and the bad case of auto herpes (damn Chicago salt), I'm really impressed with this car. Compared with any other Japanese car from the '80s, this thing is (a) ridiculously easy to work on and ( much better at absorbing bumps, at least after I deflated the tires from the crazy 47-48 psi they were at when I got it. And that's another question for this mileage thread. I noticed much better cornering ability after I lowered all four tires to ~32 psi, but the door sill sticker actually recommends 26. Are there advantages (on- or off-road) to running 26 psi? Would there be a significant hit to gas mileage?
