2004outback

Thanks for all the reply's and help! I went to the dealer and they checked the vin #. Despite the date on the door 2004, the service guy said it was a 2005. I got the correct filter but is costed some bucks. Next time I will try will look around for a better deal. Thanks again Eric

I can not find a replacement air filter at the auto parts store for my May 2004 2.5 liter (non-turbo) outback legacy station wagon. I have tried the 2004 and 2005 legacy outback filters – they are not wide enough and too long. Additionally, I have tried the 2004 legacy filters – they do not fit either. My air filter is more of a square than rectangle. Does the outback legacy wagon have two models of air filters for 2004? If they do, the parts guys don’t have the information in their data base. To top it off my dealer supplied service manual identifies the car as a 2005 even though the sticker on the door states it was manufactured in May of 2004. Any information will help. Thanks! PS If you own a 2004 legacy outback wagon double check the parts before you go home and replace them!
