Some lovely person clipped my driver's side mirror. Only the glass is shattered. The rest of the mirror is just fine. The dealer tells me to replace the whole mirror, which costs $150 just for the part. But my mechanic suggested maybe just replacing the glass. The mirrors are heated, so would removing the broken glass and gluing new glass effect the heating mechanism? Is there a proper way to go about doing this? What would you do? Thanks.

I have a 2000 legacy/outback that has the exact same issue with the driver's side window. Not that this helps with your solution, just thought you'd like to know that someone else has the same problem. But, this thread helps me. So thanks.
