  1. We still cannot get the 1995 legacy sedan with the ej22 engine to start. Car drove into driveway just fine before all this started. Vehicle has 160,000 milkes on it. This all atarted when 2 of my boys removed the timing belt without ligning up anything, just took it out. They then replaced the belt using the wrong marks. They tried to start the car over and over, no luck (they were using the wrong mark on the crank sprocket). I set the marks correctly and installed the belt, spun it around by hand a couple of times to verify that the marks were CORRECT. Car still will not start. I have verified the pins on the cam sprockets are still intact, and they are. We are getting readings of "0" compression on the two front cylinders, cannot get guage in the back two. My question is, is there any way that the valves could have been bent when the boys tried starting the car with the timing SO FAR OFF? My next step is to take car to a mechanic. How do I check for bent valves? There is not a lot of room on the sides of the engine. Thank you all for your input to prior posts I have tried everything!!!!!
  2. The engine turns, sometimes there is a backfire. Could the crank be off 360 degrees? How do I verify the #1 is @ TDC? Is it possible that the engine is not turning at the propper speed to start? We put in a new starter also a new water pump. How many times around does it take for the timing belt marks and sprocket marks to line up again all together??
  3. Yes, we used all the correct marks. Still won't start. Used "Endwrench" article as guide and still can't get car to start.
  4. We are still unable to get our 1995 Legacy sedan to start. timing belt was removed but marks NOT ligned up beforehand. Reinstalled timing belt by aligning marks, won't start. Car was running before timing belt removal. Engine is 2.2, automatic. Any ideas on how to verify the marks "|" are still in the right place?? Car was bought used so don't know whole history. Please help, Thank you
  5. O.K. my 2 sons took the old one off because it was VERY dried out and cracked, car has 160,000+ miles bought used and this might be original belt (it was Subaru). I am sure they did NOT align ANY marks when they tokk the old one off. How do we get everything aligned so the timing is back to correct? engine tries to start but will backfire. Also do we have to completely reassemble the engine or can it run with the timing belt exposed? )no alt, P.S., or AC). Thank you
  6. Please Help!!!! We have installed a new timing belt and water pump in my sons 1995 Legacy sedan 2.2 engine. After putting the belt on car would not start, has spark and gas but no go. We turned the crankshaft 360 degrees and tried again, same result. Marks all line up on the cam shaft gears as well as the crankshaft gear. Don't know what else to try please help with any ideas. Thank you all.
