Hi.
I drive 09 Outback 2.5i Automatic.
It has 4000 miles on it.
I notice that (specially when A/C is on) the motor knocks on 87Gas when driving less than 20mph, specially from 0mph to 10mph.
The similar phenomenon occurred on my 08 Outbacksport 5spd.
This doesn't happen when I use 89. Does anyone have similar issues?

I have been trying to find a place to put the scangauge display somwhere on my dashboard.
I need to avoid air bag areas and I don't want disturb my meter panels either, and I hate to stick a tape on dashboard.......
Any Ideas? I know on ebay they sell stuff to set it on rearview mirrors, but I think the cable gonna disturb the view....

Hi.
I have been working for a customs broker, KWE
http://www.kweusa.com/default.asp
KWE is the 2nd largest customs broker in Japan. I guess some of you heard the names Schenker, DHL etc.
I just thought it might be some interest to you to import this vehicle from Japan. What do you guys think??

Wait till you go down a steep mountain and get 150 mpg.
Your looking at instantanous gas mileage, not trip or tank gas mileage.
It is working fine.

I just found that Scangauge needs setting up Engine size, Tank Size and one full fill up to show more accurate mpg.
-
I've recently bought Scangauge II to find out if it helps to determine fuel saver really works as it claimed or not.
There is an X-gauge feature to read horsepower. Does anyone have been trying this? I think it showing accurate readings.
MPG readings, I think it needs a few fill-ups to get the right readings. When I cruise on highway, it sometimes show 78mpg.
My car is 08 Impreza Outback
-
I think Subarus shows difference depends on the brand or octane ratings, compare to other brands such as Toyota Corolla, etc.
My 08 Outback Impreza is okay with 87, but I definately feel the difference when i put 89. And more, Chevron or Texaco seems to have better gas mileage than other brands as well.
-
Well with gas mileage becoming peoples top concern, its not pissing it away. Remeber they are a small company, and can not afford not too have a small car thats effecient on fuel. Also they started out as 2wd, so they arent pissing it all away.
Now if they got rid of thier engine, then yes.

Toyota was selling a minivan called "ESTIMA" in Japan. It was orginally a MR layout van and they were promoting as well balanced minivan. Now, when they changed the model to the type they call MCR30 and ACR30, they quit doing that and they put the motor on the front. I was so disappointed with Toyota that they even deny their own invention.
So, I agree with nipper, if Subaru get rid of boxer.... I myself feel a shame as Japanese.
I live in Dallas, TX and when it rains or get storm, I love the Boxer+AWD. There's a quite difference from other cars.

I am getting roughly 28 mpg with mixed driving..not babying it...But my last tank I wanted to see what I would get if I "stayed off the throttle" some ( taken the other night on the way to work.)
30.3
08 Impreza 2.5i 5 door 5 spd...11,000 miles mixed driving..just shy of 100 miles a day
Have you ever seen ur MPG higher than 31.2?
-
KTS can you post a few more pics of your mileage on the trip computer, like maybe your next few tanks of gas and tell us the type of driving you have been doing.
I have one updated picture showing my MPG.
Driving condition : about 60 milies / Highway daily, 60-65mph, plus 20 miles city/daily. A/C on sometimes.

Hi, I just got my 08 Impreza. Is there anyone that has changed out the fog lights or the bulbs yet?
I think the fog lights on this car are not that good compared to the Legacy I just got rid of.
Hi, I also own 08 Impreza (Outback sport)
I guess the reason why you feel that way is the low-beam headlight. Fog lights only comes on if you turn the headlight on. And the headlights are HID, much brighter than fog lights.
Fog lights are there to show others that you are on the road, well, its just my opinion, though.

Thanks for the information about how the marketing companies do their business here.
I think, just let those junk mails go into the shred machine.

Hi all,
Since I've bought a new Subaru, I have been received several surveys from non Subaru companies and organizations and most of them says that I have a chance to win the prize like $30K, $10K things like that.
Subaru dealership promised and I signed the contract that they don't disclose my private info.... I guess these organizations get the infos from DOT or something.... They know what car I have.
Since its my first purchase of the brand new vehicle in US, I would like to know others' comment on this kind of survey.

I am very impressed the the 2.5 actually..peppy..and decent on gas ..I got 10,500 miles on mine already and I get 28 mpg average mixed.
wow, mine also has 10,600 miles or so, I drive about 70 miles per day.
Gas, I get 27mpg average with AC on mixed driving. The best I've seen was 31.5mpg/avg on the meter. I think having mpg meter is a good idea because that makes me want to see the better mileage = safe driving, I guess.

Nice:slobber::slobber: The Black OBS and the Silver OBS look gorgous..I love your front bumper protector..thinking on getting that and the rear one ..along with the sports grill for mine.. ktsubau..you and me are the only 2 on this board with a true love for these cars. Question 4 U ..have you noticed any excessive paint chipping in front of the rear wheels? Its a problem those with the darker colors are having. I have alittle on my SWP but not bad at all.
Well, paint chipping. yes. I drive to work, Dallas TX Intl Airport area - too many trucks throwing stones and dirts on me!! Other thing bothers me is bird poop, so I carry a water bottle and paper towel so that I can remove them.
My dealership offered me a film called Modern Armor. Its a film that covers the hood or bumper and it looks like same as the car without hood bra from 30ft away. Dealership also offered me a protection service "Ding Monkey", and it gives paint touch-ups and free wind shield repairs. I had used it once and they did a wonderful job. I am thinking about to use it again ( there are some limitations to the repair) to touch up the tippings ( I've been noticed two or three spots).
Buying a Brand New Car, you know scratches etc bugs us nuts, but if we don't want any of those, we need to keep it in a garage.
Btw, when I saw other new Imprezas, like Newport Blue Pearl ( the one they show on catalogue), I wasn't attracted at all. The other color I recommend is Red. I also saw a black STI and it looked cool. New Models, definately depends on the color, I wouldn't like it much if I had the one with Newport Blue Pearl.
and 2.5 SOHC is much better than I thought. with negative ion beads that I posted on the other thread.... (you can see it on my photo albums)

Ice is Ice is Ice. Short of studded snow tires, nothing is going to help. Once the car starts sliding sideways, all bets are off. This is not like rain where if you release the brakes, or release the throttle, tires will regain traction. They wont. Sleet or slush is just as bad as ice.
nipper
I'm sorry to hear the accident. When I had Legacy GT, it was AT and when I was driving on the ice, it slipped and bumped into the snow wall. It didn't crush the car, fortunately. Then this year, I have 5spd Outback Impreza and had a couple inches of snow. There was a moment that my car started to slip (tires were all-season tire, Bridgestone Potenza RE01) but when I quit putting my foot on the gas pedal, car started to gain the grip, I think its because when I quit feeding gas, what the 5spd does is to slowing down and it won't keep running ( I feel like bad expression, sorry for my English).
So, I guess, when the weather is bad, maybe the manual transmission is better than AT?

KTS can you post a few more pics of your mileage on the trip computer, like maybe your next few tanks of gas and tell us the type of driving you have been doing.
Okay, I think, I should take pics before I pump the gas, then it shows actual true mileage.

As far as the Techron goes, I use only Chevron gas because I seem to get better mileage and a happier engine. Add it, but you don't need to go whole hog on the amount. Just add it more than once, then once you've cleaned out the system stay with better gas! Arco may be cheap, but the detergents they DON'T add (and that Chevron does) help you put miles on your original engine.
Engines are expensive, both in time and money. Arco - $3.14 in PHX. Chevron - $3.17. Pay the .30 extra for the tank fill and get the detergents already added! May seem wasteful to some, but will save you money down the road.
I use Chevron too. When I had Subaru in Japan, some gas brands didn't work with twin-turbo EJ20. Also, Engine Oil, I didn't feel that it had being changed till I started to change it at a dealership. I think Subaru Boxer has a unique character comparing to other type of engines ( I hear BMW and Mercedes etc also picky about oils and stuff)
I know those beads sounds fishy, but the seller in Japan guarantees 30day money back gurantee ( I spoke with the manager of this seller a few times over the phone) so, it wouldn't hurt to try.
The reason why car manufac. don't install them in the first place is cost. A good example is US spec 08 Imprezas don't have;
all power windows fully automatic up & down
No tinted glass
electric folding mirrors
JDM spec have all of them. Its just because of the cost, I believe.

for now I just use it for the air filter,
for gas tank, I am making a wire tool (like a dipstick) so that I can take them out, if I don't want it.
will update.
I checked it with manufacturer and said that for US model Subarus,
its better to use them in air filter or coolant reserver tank.
I use the beads in them both. with A/C on, I don't feel much loss of power.

THIS is what he's criticizing...with good reason. No offense to anyone if this is a pic of your car. From an aesthetic standpoint, the paint scheme makes no sense at all. Like I said--I think whoever designed the two-tone thought it looked cool for a foreign market, but it doesn't fly too well here.
I bet for 09 you see the same car w/ a totally different pant scheme. I also bet some dealers will have trouble getting some of these 08s off the lot...
Also, I understand that the hood scoops should be for turbo cars, but they should have put a couple of the little hood vents/louvers on this. This Outback Sport looks much more urban than outback...

I think, it just depends on the color. I love the mine with two-tone black.

Denso is afine, its OE for quite a few mfg's.

My Subaru 08 Outback, air flow meter is Denso.
Denso was originally a part of Toyota Motor group.

Can I ask: Do you use them both in the fuel tank and air intake? Any chance these can break down in the Gas tank?
Thanks, John
