  1. SO I bought this 1987 Subaru RX for $400 and used about $200 in gas getting the thing and dropping it off at my garage.

The intake manifold has a blown gasket somewhere... the thing smokes like no tomorrow but only once it warms up.

I only have 1 day a week to really work on this thing, that is saturday.

I have tags for it, and jsut bought new tires.

Should I sell it or can someone help me out here.

  2. OK so Im stumped. Everytime I start the RX now it has a ticking noise somewhere in the engine bay, it has a Check Engine Light, and it smoke.

Today I started it up, no CEL, no ticking, no smoke!!! Wait... 25seconds later, whats that ticking noise? Turn around and look at all the grey smoke!

Im lost on where to start. Advise?

Smoked in the garage, dont think it was coolant because it didnt burn our eyes. Just smelled like death lol.

Also gona be taking my intake manifold off... anyone point me in the direction on how to go about that?

  3. OK, so I bought the RX on 10/1/07. I filled out the title correctly, and the previous owner filled it out incorrectly.

    Attempt one to register car:

Drove 60 miles to DMV, to be told the title must be notarized. The title did not say this (title was 20yrs old.) So due to state law, I went back to where I purchased the car (5 hour drive one way- PA) to get the title noterized at a bank.

We corrected the title, crossed out the 2 incorrect lines, and had the noter stamp both. This is what the DMV in WV told us to do.

    Attempt 2 to register car:

Take title to DMV, they say they cant accept it because lines are crossed out and they would have never told us to do that. If you took at it, you can tell why it was crossed out and it would make sense.

So now we're approaching out 30 day period. They want us to get a new title, and do all that again.

Any words of wisdom before I sell the damn RX?

  4. Well I moved the car into the driveway today (steep uphill) and smelt something horrible and looked at the cloud of smoke I was making. Im not sure it was coolant, could have been the seafoam in the gas working its way through the 2yr old stale gas.

So I poped the cap of the radiator, heard a gurling noise as some spilled out, and was greated by foam. Only about the size of a pencil eraser.

  5. Couldnt tell you from where... I know it WAS dripping fromt he turbo coolant line on the motor side, but now when it warms up itll start steaming around te turbo. Exhaust also starts steaming, and I get coolant on the front of the block where it says EA82.

so my question is should I just go find a NA EJ25, 22 etc or fix my motor? I plan on driving it till it blows up... cant afford to fix it right now

  6. the downpipe will fit if you change the flange.. and...

I have a WRX downpipe in my EA81T. I had to change the flange over as well as elongate the top/front curve of the downpipe to meet the turbo. the WRX/STI turbos are larger so the front of the downpipe has to be brought forward a little bit.

You also have the option of putting a WRX turbo on your EA82T but that opens up a whole other can of worms. I suggest that you maximize the intake and exhaust flow potential and leave the stock turbo on it, as you seem to be asking about doing anyway.

If you want to commit to it, chop the flange off of the front of the STI downpipe and remove the stock one, see how it lines up. Put a brick or 2 under the car to hold it close to where it needs to go. It slightly reduced the ground clearance in my EA81T coupe but not badly.

Speaking of all this, you *do* know the chop-out-the-bottom-of-the-air filter-box trick, right? :brow:

Mmm no, please inform me

Never should have mentioned that a TD04 would be a consideration... Ooooh boy.

  7. So I got a killer deal on an STI exhaust going on. Like $50 bucks for the whole thing. Downpipe, midpipe/resonator, muffler.

Im just wondering what I would nee to do to make it fit. Will the muffler even fit? I know the WRX/STI mufflers are quite large.

What will I need to modify? How should I go about making the downpipe fit the EA82t's turbo?

  8. Running for 10min, i develop a coolant leak on my EA82. its on the pass side of the car and drips down in to spots, roughly 4" apart from each other. If you move the car, there are 2 lines from the coolant.

Im going to look into this tomorrow... i think its the turbo but im not sure?

  9. Well after starting it for the 3rd time and blasting some stale smelling gas out the exhaust, the idle is getting smoother, battery holds a charge, and the center diff light is coming on now when its supposed to.

Wednesday we're going to hose the thing down with some simplegreen and dawn dish soap, then change the oil, flush the coolant, seafoam it, and do teh air filter.

  10. Clutch doesnt work so well

    4wd light doesnt light up

Diff lock light flickers (more off then on)

Loosing alot of coolant from some random place... not really sure where... (puddles under front right and full rear of motor)

Oil pressure reads 5ish at idle, up to 45 when at 3k

Turbo light only comes on somtimes (turbo makes a pssshhh sound when it does come on)

Car smells really bad inside and out lol
