  1. checked the only two places in reno that i know would have them and they were out of their y-pipes (bought from there last time). they didn't have any 95 engines either so i will probably be buying a 2.2 out of a 97 impreza.
  2. Hey guys I am still debating on what engine to put in. I am having trouble finding the Y-pipe here in Reno for the 2.2 L engine. Is there a website that sells them? If someone has one maybe please send me a message with how much you want for it. If I can find one of those I am definitely going with the 2.2l
  3. Well I picked up a 99 Legacy SUS for pretty cheap with a blown engine. What engine should I go with? It had a phase 1 ej25 dohc engine that was removed last night. Looking to either put a phase 2 sohc 2.5 or go with the 2.2 What manufacturing dates of the engine should I look for? This will be my second swap. I did it before on a 99 Forester but it was a 2.5 sohc to start with so this time things might be a little different. I used a MY2000 impreza 2.2 block and heads and reused my 2.5 intake manifold for that one. I was hoping I could reused the old intake manifold this time as well but I've been reading through some of the post and it looked like the 2.5 dohc wont bolt up to the 2.2. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated and pictures are to come once I get rolling.
  4. After I swapped those out it fired right up. Went on a test drive and I couldn't get it to upshift gears. I was going on the freeway at 60 mph waiting for the car to shift so I accelerated to 70 mph but nothing. Car was just hoover at a smooth 4000 rpms but no shift. Then on the way home I stopped and put the car in first. Gave it some gas till I was rolling and shifted to 2. nothing.. then to 3... nothing... Drive... nothing, no shift or jolt from the tranny to tell if it shifted. The car was a manual that I pulled the new engine from and my car is an automatic. I may have not hooked up something right. Any ideas?
  5. 2.2 on the left and 2.5 on the right Since I am using the 2.5 ECU I think I have to Swap out the Cam and Crank Sprockets from the 2.2 to the old 2.5 ones.
  6. Yeah It bolted right up to the 2.2 heads. I had to go to the junkyard to get a different Y pipe and the Bottom Thermostat housing was different but other then that everything was identical. The ej22 I used was from a 2000 Impreza. I will try those things today and see what happens (hopefully it starts ). Thanks for the advice guys.
  7. Hi my name is Phil and I am new to the forum. I just finished swapping out my 99 SOHC ej25 to 00 SOHC ej22. These are both phase 2 motors. The 2.5 was blown and decided to put in the 2.2 because I hear they are more reliable. Now the problem. Everything is back together and when I tried to start the car, it keeps cranking and cranking but doesn't start. I am still using the 2.5 ecu and 2.5 manifold. I was wondering if this had anything to do with it. Please help this is my first swap.
