  1. ok i have a 1990 subaru legacy (front wheel drive) that seems to have crapped out on me.... when i purchased the car it needed a harmonic balancer....which the seller had put on by a mechanic....the mechanic told me that a "key way was all tore up" not sure which one either cam or crank i spose.... said he did the best he could but made no promises on how long it would last..... SO... now i can just barely get the car started, the engine idles @ around 500 rpm and bogs out when the gas is depressed....checked for spark(is ok), cleaned mass air sensor, replaced fuel filter, air filter, plugs & wires, and still same ol bogging... idles rough as hell ....thinking that my car is out of time..... can someone perhaps link me to a repair guide,or show me a picture of the motor with the timing cover off? i know that in order to replace worn part i may likely have to take the whole motor apart..... i'd just put a new motor in before i do that.... to all you mechanics out there familiar with this motor..... any ideas/advise/info????
  2. Firstly, I would like to apologize for likelihood that I am posting this in the wrong place... Ok, so I recently purchased a standard 1992 legacy (front wheel drive). The car is pretty clean, the interior is awesomely preserved, and the car has little cancer/body damage. My problem is that the car seems to run quite rich and bogs out when attempting give it gas. I changed the wires/plugs/air filter so far and haven't gotten much improvement.I have various theories on how to fix the problem, but don't have money to waste on replacing parts that may or may not fix my car.Next in line for replacement is fuel filter(when i get paid),and if that doesn't fix it then what? Mass air sensor? Fuel pump? o2 sensor? also, the previous owner straight piped the exhaust minus the cat....could this be the culprit? The car drives nicely despite being a little loud (once you get the rpms going)...I only have 500 bucks wrapped into it and the car has 200k+ on the odometer....I am not looking to restore it, I only would like to get my 500 bucks worth. Any suggestions/advise I can get will be of great value to me... Thanking all in advance: zoltan16866
