Hi Brat69. I've got a 1983 Brat. A few months ago my car wouldn't start(just clicking from the relay) so I inspected the connection and noticed there's a black/yellow wire that runs from my ignition switch to a connector and then continues on under the stearing wheel column. This wire had gotten loose so I reconnected it and it started. Just last week the same the same thing happened so I cleaned up the connection but it still won't start. Did you ever get a response from your question about the codes on the back of the ignition switch or were you able to figure that out? Thanks.

I've never done what you're trying to do. Sorry I can't help. I have a North American '83 Brat in need of a hill holder valve because mine leaks and my mechanic says they're unbypassable(which doesn't seem right, right?). Anyway, if you don't end up using yours then I'll buy it from you. I can't find one anywhere. Thanks.

I have an 83 Brat with the same ignition as you. My key wouldn't turn so I dismantled the key end from the ignition switch end. It should be simple to pull apart. The ignition switch is the thing that has a few wires soldered to the back of it. The front of it has a rotating blue plastic piece with a T in it. In TurboSubaruBrat's last picture the very center horizontal nub thing is what fits inside the T to turn it to start the car. Then, like someone said above, you can use a screwdriver, sharpened popsicle stick, whatever to rotate the blue piece clockwise.
I can't dismantle the right side(actual key side) of the switch but I'm going to try drilling out that pin tonight. I'll let everyone know how that goes.
