  1. Several months ago I changed the spark plugs & wires on my '97 impreza outback 2.2. Never really thought about gapping them... I have only really worked on diesels and didn't even know what gapping spark plugs was at the time. Not sure if I put in pre-gapped plugs or not, but either way I don't want to mess anything up so I have two questions: What is the spec for these? I got one of those little gap gauges but I don't really know what to do next. -or- Should I just go get a set of pre-gapped / fancier plugs? What's best for my car? When I got these I just walked into Napa and got whatever came up on the computer, cheap NGK's if I remember correctly.. Also, I should add that I have been getting slightly worse mileage, and minor missing when starting. Only other problem I know of is bad TPS sensor which I haven't replaced yet (do have the part though) which I was told will cause erractic idling and maybe bad mileage? Thanks.
  2. thanks dave.. i am actually going out of town too.. wont be back till next weekend. i will get you that pic when i can.. you wouldn't happen to have cruise control parts off a 2.2 would you? if yall are telling me it will be easier to just swap the throttle body, that is what i'll do.
  3. thanks for all the help. glad to hear the wiring is already there. plug and play.. meaning just bolt on the stuff and the wiring harnesses are sitting there waiting, or... i should probably pull all of this stuff myself so i can see where it will go on my car. because i will be honest i have no chance at this point. maybe i should forget about doing it myself. do i need to find all the stuff out of my exact car (97 impreza outback sport 2.2 auto) or just any 2.2 ?? i went on ebay just out of curiosity and am now confused. parts dont look cheap either.... i wonder how much a wrecker (or someone on here) would charge for all the parts you listed including steering wheel? Cruise Control Module ECU Subaru Lega Outback 1997 1998 96 97 98 99 LEGACY CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR MODULE ECM 1996 96 1997 97 SUBARU LEGACY CRUISE CONTROL COMPUTER ...thanks for the help
  4. thanks for all the replies... so to replace just the TPS i need to set the new one, and to swap the whole throttle body i need to "use a voltmeter and get access to the ecu".... which one is simpler? being honest about my abilities i dont really know where to start with either. what exactly is the procedure for swapping the whole throttle body? dave i would probably be interested if you have one for my 97 impreza outback with the 2.2 thanks a lot
  5. i have never even worked on any kind of cruise control before. do you think i would have trouble installing ? i would rather throw in some buttons/switches on the dash or something than swap the steering wheel. you can also get a kit right? might be hard to come by? thanks
  6. yep that's what i was afraid of. i was told it was just a simple R&R of the sensor.. didn't know you have to set the new one. its a real pain huh? i am in west NC just north of asheville. i will go with a used one. so you are saying its simpler to swap in a new throttle body, but how much more expensive is it? assuming used? thanks for the replies
  7. i got an error code for my throttle control sensor.... autozone wants 84 bucks and napa wants 109 bucks for a new one....... which one should i get? i know where the sensor is on the engine, i just replace it with a new one thats it right? hoping there isn't something that would have caused it to fail, just a worn out sensor. the O2 sensor needed replaced almost a year ago.. thanks
  8. I want to put cruise control in my 97 impreza outback.... it is a regular 2.2 with an automatic.. wondering what's my best option for getting cruise control.. is there a kit available? is it difficult to install? thanks
  9. yeah, that is exactly what i am doing.. this is a legacy brighton. i think i am going to get rid of the aftermarket tach kit. kind of a hassle plus it will look dumb mounted on the dash board. so would i have to swap in the instrument cluster from a legacy with stock tach, like find one at a wrecker or something? is that what you'd do? so a brighton will already have the tach wiring behind the instrument cluster i just need to swap in an instrument cluster with a tach then hook it back up? just making sure. i am not that great with electrical stuff. do you know what years i could get one out of if i do go to a wrecker to get it?
  10. hi, i have an aftermarket tachometer kit that i want to put in a 1996 legacy wagon which has no stock tachometer. the kit came with instructions but they are not very good. i think i have to splice a wire in.. something to do with the ignition coil.... has anyone ever done this? would this car have the tach wiring already behind the dash even though there is no tach? thanks a lot!
