  1. Just bought a 97 Legacy Outback! I'm loving it, but it had no owner's manual with it. I saw a couple on ebay that just said "Subaru Legacy" on it, and was wondering if the Outbacks have different manuals. Thanks!
  2. I was having a similar problem with my 91 Legacy. Got the info off of Josh's site, and got the codes. They were for the water temp sensor (this affects the idle, and I was having stalling problems) and the mass air flow sensor. Found the air flow sensor at a local junkyard for $85, got a new water temp sensor from Subaru for $26, changed them out, and I'm running great again. Both were simple enough repairs, though it was a bit of a pain to get at the water temp sensor. A deep socket (like a spark plug one) does the trick though.
  3. OK, codes are clear. Now I just have to wait for it to act up again. I'll post an update when that happens....
  4. OK, so this problem has been getting worse, and the CEL has been coming on and off. I ran the diag, and got a 21--Water temperature sensor, and 23--Air Flow Sensor. I haven't noticed any problems with overheating, etc, so I'm more interested in the air flow sensor. With the car approaching 200K miles, I'm hesitant to drop $200-300 into it, especially if it's not going to fix the problem. Just wondering if anyone had similar experiences, and what results they got from changing the sensor. Thanks!
  5. Thanks mattocs! What year is the one in the picture? That's exactly what I'm looking for.
  6. I currently own a 91 Legacy wagon. It's pushing 200K miles, and we are ready for an upgrade. I'm not a big fan of the Outback's style, I prefer the more standard wagon look. What is the last year that the standard wagon was produced before the style changed to the current Outback style?
  7. Does this code refer to the p/b control unit under the rear speaker? It was clicking a lot when I was connecting the belt at the floor, but I would think that if this box was the problem, both belts wouldn't work. The passenger side works fine. Any tips are much appreciated.
  8. Hey everyone-- I'm having the same problem in my 91. I ran the diag and got a code 14--"Rear limit switch on driver's side remains on." Is this a DIY job that anyone's done before? Any tips on where to start? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for all the tips everyone! I'll look into it some more. It's really not that big a deal, the car runs great overall, and is still getiing around 27MPG for having almost 200K miles, so I'm not complaining!
  10. It doesn't happen all the time, but I notice that when I'm on the freeway, cruising at about 3K RPMs, I get little bits of hesitation intermittently. Twice now, I've had trouble starting the engine as well, although it's been a while since this happened last. For the most part, the car runs beautifully for having 190K miles. I changed the air filter, fuel filter, plugs and plug wires, but I'm still having the same problem. Is it possible that the fuel pump is going bad?
  11. Thanks for all the help everyone! I'll be bookmarking these forums for sure!! Ara
  12. I am changing the fuel filter on my 91 Legacy wagon, and it says I should depressurize the fuel system first by disconnecting the fuel pump and cranking the engine a few times. That's all fine and dandy, but I don't know where the fuel pump or relay is to disconnect. Anyone help? Thanks!
