  1. Hi guys, Just wondering if there is anything I need to look for which would cause my new CV joint to fail after 8 months or so of "normal" driving? It was a NAPA gold new part so thinks its under warranty, but don't want to go through all the hassle without knowing if there could be some cause?
  2. eek ... well the parts are cheap .... but ... never done a timing belt! Has to be easier than clutch - axle - wheel bearing right?
  3. Hi guys, I have already done a pretty good forum search and come up with, what I hope is the obvious diagnosis, but just want to run it by you experts once for confirmation &/or additional suggestions. So here it is: Drove 20mi down the freeway to work ... running fine, then as I get off, the car dies on the ramp. I was low on gas so first thought was "wow, I guess it was lower than I thought!" ... put gas in, tried to turn over & nothing - not a sputter. So towed it to my work & cranked it over numerous times with same result. Got co-worker to check for spark at plug - nada. Repeat with coil - nada. So after some forum searching I decided to throw a new coil in since it was a cheap part & replaced cap/rotor wires. Still nothing, not a hint of a sputter. More forum searches & another day & decide to follow suggestion to see if the rotor was turning while cranking the engine. BINGO - rotor does not turn. So, after all that, am I 99% correct in assuming it is the timing belt(s)? Any other ideas? Thanks! Caleb
  4. ..... doh ... should have searched first. Solved here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81293&page=2 ......dumb switch!
  5. Hi guys I have a 92 Loyale 5spd 4wd that is doing something funny. With headlight switch & ignition off, the running lights are staying on!!! ?? Any ideas where to start looking? Thanks, Caleb
  6. Just did the clutch on my 92 Loyale, & of course lost most of the gear oil out the back. Figured its a good time to replace anyway. Should I consider an upgrade to Redline etc? Or just use what the manual recommends? Thanks! Caleb
  7. Thanks Mark, that clears up a lot of it! .... you'd think these sites would have 4wd option on the model drop down list
  8. Hey guys I'm getting clutch kit confusion here ! Which one(s) are best for my 92 Loyale w/push button 4wd? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?N=0&Nr=AND%28wpn_tl_name:Engine+%26+Drivetrain,wpn_cat_name:Clutches+%26+Flywheels,wpn_scat_name:Clutch+Kit,part:Clutch+Kit%29 Thanks! Caleb
  9. Thanks guys! My Internet was down this weekend so had to wait to get back to work to check your replies. Your sentiments echo what I have heard here from locals. The local Suby "expert" does not even want to give it a checkup - says it is "yard art" without even seeing. Others have said that the ea71 is the most reliable engine Subaru ever made & the car will be very reliable & easy to maintain... go figure. I have alway felt a solid older vehicle is the way to go. I have owned 74 VW bus, 75 BMW 2002, 84 Toy 4runner, 88 Toy Landcruiser, & currently own 88 VW Syncro Vanagon 4x4, 90 vanagon gl....... so.. no stranger to older cars. Just want to get opinions on reliability & parts availability. PS: Anyone verify that Toluene works on the windows? Thanks again, Caleb
  10. Hello! I have been lurking for awhile, but now I have my sights set on a vehicle. A guy is selling his '79 GL & I would like to know if there are any particular problem spots to check out. It runs well now & I plan on going through it to make it a daily driver. What to look/listen for? Also it has a cloudy windshield & the guy said he couldn't get it to clear up - any tricks? Baring that, what other models/years have the same windshield? Thanks, Caleb
