Thanks to everyone again who has helped so far here is a update. I attached a switch to the negative terminal of my battery and the other end to the spade of the solenoid therefore bypassing the ignition switch and the inhibitor. when I push the button I can hear the plunger move every time one out of like 20 times it would turn over. Very frustrated I went to disconnect from the spade and my solenoid is very very hot. Question is, Should it get that hot? and Any other ideas?

so where the hell is this relay I dont know where it is I just finished cleaning all my contacts to the same result and I replaced the selinod when this all started im going out to test the voltage on the spade with the connector attached like I said before the cable that runs from the starter and bolts on to the selinoid had no voltage when i turned the key

Ok so last night I went and tested the little wire that connects to the spade and it came back with 12 volts so what should my next step be? any takers should I still add the relay? in the mean time im going to clean my grounds because they are all really dirty under thereoh also one last thing when I was checking voltage I put it on the bolt that has the wire that goes from the start to my soelinod and when the key was turned I got no volts at all is this normal please let me know. once again thanks for all the help so far.

so the ignition relay does not effect the starting? Good to know yeah im down to thinking that it is a voltage problem that i will see what is being put out from the ignition switch tonight and if its low put on the relay also I need to get a book so I can see that inhibit switch and I guess test that out

I plan to get a service manual tonight and I somehow never thought of checking the voltage on the little wire that connects to the starter from the ignition switch. The only reason I have ruled out the inhibit switch is because it didnt turn over while in park or in neutral but i need to find out where that is so that I can look into it if the wire is putting off enough voltage if it is not putting off enough then relay here I come. This is the first car I have ever worked on that didnt have a ignition relay. anyone else have Ideas for me and by the way this is the best forum i have been on

ok so there is a set of fuses on the passengers side as well? johnceggleston you were saying to disconnect the wire attach that to a relay then the relay to the starter and that might work? yeah I attached a starter button bypassing my ignition switch and I could get it to turn over ill look for a fuse and see if there is a ignition fuse
