  1. Hey guys,

One thing after another with this car it seems!!

I've started to notice coolant on the garage floor and also the car running hotter, which I'm guessing is from loosing lots of fluid while driving.

Here's a shot of where it is coming from underneath the car near the front. Not sure which part this is.

    Any help!?

    Thanks!

  2. Not sure if this is fixable, but when I turn my heater/defroster etc on, I have to go to at least the second setting before anything starts coming out. Setting's 2,3,4 work but not 1. The lights for the buttons come on when I switch it to #1, just no air comes out. I would like to have that spot working since all the rest are quite loud when just cruising.

    Any ideas?

    ~Thanks!

  3. To Eulogious:

I had to cut the wires to use the plug that came with the new (used) alt. The original plug and wires from my car looked like they had really fried themselves. Maybe from the power surges. I think I have a soldering gun around. You're right, I should probably do that.

Will check the battery. I hope the crappy alt didn't fry it since it was a good one and brand new a few months ago! That would suck!

    Thanks for the advice!

  4. My old alternator in the Loyale was causing the voltage to spike to nearly 18 when the revs went high. Sooo, I went to the wrecker and got a used one that was reported to put out 14V. I've swapped it in and for the most part it seems ok. It doesn't spike anymore and stays steady at 14V while driving but when I come to a stop and the idle goes low, it slowly creeps down to 12v and almost under. The lights dim a bit, the meter will flick with turn signals at times, and the charge light has a faint glow. As soon as I touch the gas everything is back to normal.

On a final note, could this be caused by some slightly ghetto wiring? I wouldn't say it's really bad but I had to connect the new alt plug wires to the cars wires using the tube like crimps. On one wire I had to use 2 crimps because of adding more wire for length. I made sure they had a good bite though and they're all taped up.

    Any thoughts?

  5. I know this thread is ancient but I think I have this exact problem. I originally thought it might have been alternator whine or something but this fits the picture to a T. It's quite a loud hum and drops in tone with the turn signals. It's done it since the day I bought my car. 1990 Loyale 5spd 4wd 235,xxxkm's.

Any solutions other then turning up the music?

  6. Well, ended up just finding a stock replacement from the wrecker for $30. Swapped it in tonight and everything is running perfect now. Voltage sits right where it should and doesn't change with RPM's. Even feels like it has a bit more pep when driving it. The old wires looked melted/corroded and covered with a whitish goo. All is well now though!!

  7. Hey guys.

My 1990 4wd Loyale Wagon is acting a little funny. The voltage meter seems to change with the RPMs while driving. It usually sits somewhere near 13/14 but at times when say I down shift from 4th to 3rd and the RPMs climb high the voltage can spike to nearly 18! The headlights will also become a lot brighter and then get steadily dimmer as I shift back to 4th, 5th, etc. A few things seem to effect the voltage and reflect in headlight brightness quite a bit. If I turn the heater to even the 2nd setting they dim again.

    Please let me know!

  8. I was just thinkin.. do you plan to drive with them in summer too? Will they wear out real quick? So frustrating to figure out. I do lots of logging road driving in both summer and winter...but of course you're on pavement all the rest of the time. What the hell is the right compromise?

  9. Hello!

Just curious if anyone knows some make/model tires to keep my eye out for. I'm looking to just replace the tires on my stock rims (175/70/R13 - 1990 Loyale) but want to get the toughest tread I can find. I drive alot on paved roads as well, but the reason I want them is for logging roads with potholes, sharp rocks, etc. What sizes can I look for and which models?

    Thanks!!

  10.

Hey there. New to this place and hoping to find some help!!

I have a 1990 Loyale, 5spd 4wd FI non-turbo Wagon. I've bought a new fuel filter and am being stumped by my car on the first step!! I've read that you are supposed to relieve the fuel pressure from the lines by removing the fuel pump fuse or the fuel pump relay. Well, I've done both now and the car wont stall like it's supposed too! I'm 100% sure I'm pulling the right fuse, and pretty darn sure what I pulled in the engine bay behind the drivers side strut was the relay so I have no idea why it will still run. :-\ I've let it idle and it will just keep going, even if you rev it up.

Any ideas on why this might be or how to work around it??

    Thanks!!

    `TJ
