  1. While tracking some wiring problems on my '86 GL wagon I went crazy and took the dash out to get the whole picture. Found two parts I can't identify. #1. Can anyone tell me what the mystery part is that looks like a voltage regulator that was mounted on the heater-core case behind the glovebox? #2. What are the two relays and the 15amp fuse for on the vacuum canister assembly that was mounted under the hood, passenger side between the firewall and the strut tower? I could email jpgs of these parts if anyone wants to shoot me an address. <td@oregrownmusic.com>
  2. This seems to be the sad fact that you must replace that entire unit when the flasher fails. How come this little fact is not well known? Has anyone ever repaired one? Seems like it could only be dirty or corroded contacts. TD
  3. Tell me it ain't so ... but I think the flasher on my '86 2WD GL Wagon is part of the entire assembly that only slips off the steering column after removing the steering wheel! This assemply includes the directional lever, 4way flasher switch and high beam switch!!! I've removed the top & bottom plastic covers and the few times the directionals or 4 ways flash, the only clicking I hear is coming from that switch & nothing up under the dash where most of the posts have told me to look. I can feel that assembly clicking as well. The dealer can't tell me for sure but something in that circuit costs $100 plus!! If this is what I'm up against, has anyone ever repaired an intermittant unit?? TD
  4. I was told that the flasher unit on the mid '80s wagons was under the hood in plain view & easy to change. Not so on this '86 1.8 liter wagon. I'm thinking it's up under the dash somewhere but I can't even get my hand up in the area over the clutch & brake pedal to feel around for it.   5. I was just reading some old posts regarding swapping out the old composit 2 HL system for a 4 bulb system. Cautions were mentioned about using the old wiring. It was mentioned there is a wiring diagram somewhere in Suby-Cyber_Space showing how to do this. Anyone know where that might be?   6. I've got an '86 GL wagon with the headlights that predictably go dim due to deterioration of the interior coating. I've seen similar vintage Subarus with a four headlight sealed-beam system.   8. I understand how to position crank gear & cam gear for #1 belt (distributor side of engine) but I remember some little detail that was missing from my manual the last time I did this. do you have to rotate the crank one turn before installing belt #2 with the timing mark on that cam set in the same position #1 was in when #1 belt was installed? I've heard of several other people having a similar problem but I just can't remember the solution. TD
