  1. You are a saint, sir. That's got to be the hissing sound coming from near the engine when I start up. I'm assuming I connect it back into the engine? Thanks a million. And I guess at least I have a shiny new alternator now.
  2. Hi there, I've got a 96 Legacy 2.2L that really has been a splendid car. It was due for a problem, so I can't really complain. After a routine oil change I started the car and had it cut out after about 5 seconds. This continued the next 3 or 4 times I started the car, so I assumed it must be an alternator. I took off the alternator, brought it to a parts store, and sure enough it was dead. However, after buying and installing a new alternator, I still can't get the car to run for more than 4 or 5 seconds... Do you all have any ideas as to what else could be awry? I'm beyond broke, and can't get to work without the Subaru, so I'm in a bit of a pickle.
