  1. Thanks, that's what I figured would be best. The number on the bellhousing is TZ102Z2DBA.What years am I searching for?I found someone parting out an 00 legacy sedan and thought I would ask my fellow Subaru experts about what I'm looking for.Thanks.
  2. I have a 98 lego wagon,EJ25,auto.Heard strange noises emanating from trans, took it apart, expecting front diff damage and found both planetaries destroyed.Has anyone else heard of this? What do I do?I was going to try to fix myself but I'll have more invested in hard parts than a good used trans.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. At least I have a good front diff and tail housing. Also,I counted 9 teeth on front pinion and 40 on ring gear, came up with 4.33,does that sound right?
  3. I have a 98 Lego wagon, with an auto trans, that started making a grinding noise in the rear,it was faint and could only be heard in first gear.I found my brake pads were stuck and pretty bad.I cleaned the corrosion off of the rotors and put new pads on,lubricating all slide areas. While I had it in the air,I changed front and rear diff fluids with a synthetic blend,I also drained and refilled the trans fluid. The car has 186K and I've only had it for about 24K.I did the heads and gaskets when I got it.All seemed well except I could still hear the faint grinding.A couple weeks goes by and it doesn't want to back up.It broke free enough that I got it home and found this message board. Now,I'm learning a lot about Subarus and I have my trans out and the tailshaft housing off.The trans made noise when I ran it in the air, even in neutral.I want to fix it because I like this car and I usually don't get attached.I buy cheap and fix, drive it ,then sell-not this one. Thanks for any advice.
  4. Is there a trick to getting transmissions separated from engines?I'm trying to get the trans out of lego wagon and I am having some trouble.I had the same problem with a GT.Didn't have this problem with an impreza. Also, could I have a detailed explanation of torque bind, not the causes but the damage it leaves behind. Thanks in advance.
  5. Can someone explain what torque bind is?Also, what tags and numbers do I need to know when looking for a transmission.I heard that my transmission is specific to 98&99.Thanks in advance.
  6. my car started making a faint grinding noise which sounded like it was coming from the rear of the car, only heard when in first gear, going slow. The car is an automatic.I found the caliper slides on one side stuck. The rotors looked pretty bad as far as rust and cleaned and lubed everything. It still had a faint noise but no problems.I let my wife take it to work one day and she told me when she pulled into work it felt like it lost a gear and didn't want to move.I drove it and I didn't have any problems for a while.I replaced the trans fluid and diff fluids, putting a synthetic blend in diffs. The car has 186000 miles.I drove it for a while and went to back out of a parking space and it didn't want to move, pressing the accelerator,it jumped and stopped, like I had a binding in a differential.I got it home and in my gravel driveway, backing up,my right front tire was locking up.The inner cv boot has been torn for a while on the right front so I figured the joint had failed.I replaced the axle. The problem still exists.I put it on jackstands and ran it.At first it was bound up but became free.I got under it and listened while in drive, reverse and neutral.A noise is coming from the area of the front differential, even in neutral.I cannot find information on possible problems or a transmission manual.I have rebuilt auto transmissions of different makes and I am willing to do this myself but I would like to know what I'm getting into.Any information would be helpful.
