  1. So I successfully replaced a the left manifold gasket, effectively silencing an exhaust leak. However, in order to install the gasket, I had to undo both manifolds. As I loosened the second bolt on the right-side manifold, I noticed that the bolt pulled out about three rows of the female threads in the engine block, itself. They are essentially fused to the bolt. At least, I could not scrape them out. There was about 2 rows of clean thread at the tip of the bolt before the stripped block threads clogged things up. Needless to say, there is not enough thread to catch so currently the right manifold is sealing with only one bolt. My question is two-fold: 1) Am I correct in assuming that if I can buy a slightly longer bolt with the same thread pattern, there are more threads deeper in the engine block that the original bolt would not have originally caught, which a longer bolt will? 2) Does anyone know what thread size the manifold bolts are? Normally, I would simply use a thread size checker at my local NAPA, but there is not enough clean thread left to effectively catch anything. Thanks.
  2. Upon initial inspection, the frame seemed decent, despite body issues. It certainly is possibly our inspection while lying on the ground missed something. I may have already stated that I'm not the most knowledgeable wrench in the world, so here's my question reinforcing that. Where exactly are the front frame rails arches? Would they be right by the rocker panels? Do they run front to back or left to right? Again, thanks for the help and the suggestions.
  3. I think trying to replace the entire rocker is what I'm looking at. They're pretty rough. I did find new replacements at rustrepair.com, under "Subaru," then "SUBARU SEDAN / WAGON 80-94." They're for four door, but I'm thinking I can possibly cut them to fit.
  4. Hi all, I'm quite new to the site and I just bought a Brat this week. It needs some serious work. One thing it desperately needs is new rocker panels. Will panels meant for any other models fit an 86 Brat? Is anyone aware of places to buy body panels, such as the rockers and wheel wells for a brat? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  5. Hello All, I just joined the site as I have just bought an 86 Brat that is going to need some work. I live in RI. I used to own a 99 Outback that I wish I had kept as a second car. The Brat is now going to fill that role, as soon as some of the work it needs is complete. I am not sure currently if there are any other Brats on the Road in RI. I don't remember the last time I saw one.
