Can the VA diff and T-style diff interchange?
mell0094 replied to mell0094's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere is a picture of the va style diff. Used to save weight I do believe 8lbs lighter!!! That is one extra airbag at no vehicle weight expense!!

Can the VA diff and T-style diff interchange?
mell0094 replied to mell0094's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe car Ill be installing it into is my 1998 Impreza L wagon, 2.2 w/ 4eat. Checked build code thru dealer and multiple web postings and found it was 4.11. The diff I got the donor diff from was a 1991 legacy ss, from my findings this vlsd unit only came in 3.90, but I spun it a few times and I kept creeping a hair over 4 turns. So I pulled the cover 37/9 stamped on the gear. It's a version 1 vlsd. I purchased new cover gasket, seals and proper axles (91 legacy)

Can the VA diff and T-style diff interchange?
mell0094 replied to mell0094's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou are correct, the diff on the left is a vlsd and the one on right is the open VA diff. Here is a pic of the diff cover. It is definitely not an r-160

Can the VA diff and T-style diff interchange?
mell0094 replied to mell0094's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHow do I post a pic? The VA diff was used on some of the brighton models and unfortunately in my L model. if you google impreza diff you will find a picture of one sitting next to a legacy r-160. They aren't very common. I want to install a VLSD unit from an older legacy SS

Can the VA diff and T-style diff interchange?
I have a 1998 impreza w/ the VA type diff, and would like to swap it to the T-style diff. I have hours of searching in, but can't find any real solid info on the VA diffs! Other then uncommon and undesirable lol

Legacy Diff in my Impreza
mell0094 replied to mell0094's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell..... I went to do my rear diff swap, purchased the correct axles, double checked gear ratios and put the car up. Once the car was in the air I noticed my Impreza L has got the VA style rear diff : ( (like the brighton), can I swap the T-style diff in anyways? I researched it and it was saying something about it binding or being incorrect. And since I'm here- foolish of me but, are the input flanges the same on both diffs? I should have checked when it was up in the air.... Duh!

Legacy Diff in my Impreza
mell0094 replied to mell0094's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUnfortunately my Imp is an auto w/ 4.1 gear ratio (checked build sheet through dealer, listed 4.1 gear ratio), so will I just need a set of lego rear axles? Any difference in length? p.s- thx for quick reply!

Legacy Diff in my Impreza
I have a VLSD rear diff from a early 90's Legacy ss (4.1 ratio, w/stub shafts) and would like to install into my 98 impreza. My Impreza has the male axle shafts on diff side. Can I swap to legacy axles or build a hybrid axle w/ lego inside cv joints attached to the impreza axles? Any help would be great Thanks, Pat
